Vietnam Billiards Federation suspended

The World Billiards Federation (WCBS) announced the suspension of the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation (VBSF) for one year. The penalty takes effect from October 16, 2024.

WCBS said the ban will be lifted when the violation of point 5 of the Fundamental Principles of Olympic Ideals and two rules of the Olympic Charter are officially eliminated. These rules relate to the activities of sports federations in organizing and managing.

VBSF is not allowed to organize international billiards events during this time, including all 3 events: carom, snooker and pool. VBSF officials are also not allowed to participate in any billiards tournament under the supervision of WCBS for 1 year.

Previously, the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation received a penalty from the Asian Billiards Sports Federation (ACBS). VBSF and Vietnamese athletes were banned from organizing and participating in billiards-related activities, tournaments, and events in Asia, internationally, and at Asian sports festivals (SEA Games or Indoor Games) for 6 months, from July 13, 2024 to January 12, 2025.

Vietnamese athletes are still allowed to participate in international billiards tournaments.

However, according to the latest announcement from WCBS, Vietnamese athletes are still invited to participate in billiards tournaments, including sports events (such as SEA Games, ASIAD...).

Mr. Farouk El Barki - President of the World Billiards Federation emphasized: "Vietnam has an important role in this sport. WCBS will still independently organize major tournaments, from carom to pool and snooker in Vietnam, without asking for the opinion of VBSF".

The ban on 87 Vietnamese players from the 2024 National Cup has not yet been lifted. These players just participated in the Hanoi Open Pool Championship 2024 - a tournament not licensed by WCBS. Therefore, the 2024 National Cup will be without many top players in the pool category such as Do The Kien, Dang Thanh Kien, Duong Quoc Hoang, Luong Duc Thien...
