For the first time in months, WFP convoys carrying food aid are heading to Zamzam in North Darfur and Kadugli in South Kordofan, where famine is raging, according to the agency.
In addition, WFP calls on all warring parties and armed groups to allow food and food aid to reach safe areas.
On November 13, the Sudanese government decided to extend the opening of the Adre border crossing with the Republic of Chad for three months, creating favorable conditions to provide humanitarian aid to people affected by the ongoing conflict in the country.
Previously, on November 1, WFP urgently appealed for 404 million USD to support humanitarian aid activities in South Sudan by 2025, while warning that hunger was increasing and spreading in this country.
The UN agency also wants donors to quickly donate to South Sudan so that food can be prepared in advance to avoid rising relief costs.
In February 2024, the Sudanese government closed the Adre land border crossing, accusing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of using it for arms trafficking.
