Man United have reached an agreement to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £71 million, bringing the Red Devils' total spending in the summer of 2025 to more than £140 million.

This is the third major contract of the Old Trafford team under coach Ruben Amorim, after the deal of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and defender Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno Club (Paraguay).
Man United reach agreement to sign Bryan Mbuemo from Brentford
British media said Man United had to pay a £65 million transfer fee plus £6 million in add-ons to convince Brentford to let go of their key striker. Mbeumo is expected to undergo a medical in the next few days, but will not be able to play in the friendly against Leeds in Stockholm this weekend. He will soon fly with the team to the US for a summer tour next week.
The Cameroon striker scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season
Man United had two bids of £55m and £62.5m rejected for Mbeumo last month, but it was only when they raised the price to £70m (plus £1m in add-ons) that they finally convinced Brentford. Notably, Mbeumo is said to only want to join the "Red Devils" despite interest from Tottenham - the team his former Brentford manager, Thomas Frank, has just taken over.
Expectations for the "duo" Bryan Mbeumo - Cunha
Joining Man United under Ruben Amorim, Mbeumo is expected to take on an attacking role in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Including the Cunha deal, Man United have spent more than £130 million on these two attackers to solve their goalscoring problem – their biggest problem last season.
Coach Ruben Amorim decided to recruit Mbeumo
Statistics show that Man United have only scored 44 goals in the Premier League 2024-2025. That is the second worst performance in the league (only better than the relegated teams) and the lowest number in the history of the club in the Premier League era. This is the reason why Man United's board considers Mbeumo a priority contract this summer.
Bryan Mbeumo, 25, scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season and is an irreplaceable pillar for Brentford. The former France U21 international joined Brentford in 2019 for just £5.8 million. He scored a total of 70 goals in 242 games for the club, including 42 in the Premier League. The striker was instrumental in helping Brentford gain promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 2021.

Goal: Bryan Mbeumo may have made a mistake in choosing Man United
Man United's Mbeumo deal has caused a lot of controversy over the past time. Goal newspaper commented that Mbeumo may have made a mistake when choosing Man United - a team that did not have a ticket to the Champions League - instead of reuniting with coach Thomas Frank at Tottenham.
The source said that financial factors played an important role in Mbeumo's decision, as his salary at Old Trafford is expected to increase significantly.
Mbeumo's transfer fee is higher than Matheus Cunha's contract
With the Mbeumo deal, Man United has closed the first phase of the summer transfer window with three new recruits including Matheus Cunha, defender Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo.
"Red Devils" fans hope these contracts will help the club improve under new coach Ruben Amorim.
