VTC NewsVTC News16/11/2023

Alcohol in cosmetics can dry out your skin, especially if you have oily, dry, or sensitive skin. Alcohol strips your skin of its natural moisture, leaving it feeling dry and tight.

While it may give the feeling of tightening pores, which is only temporary, the dryness will lead to dry spots, blemishes or acne.

What are "alcohol-free" cosmetics?

“Alcohol-free” cosmetics do not mean that the cosmetics do not contain any alcohol, but that the ingredients do not contain bad alcohol, while fatty alcohols can still be allowed to be present. To choose the right type for you, you should carefully read the ingredients when choosing.

In cosmetic ingredients, there are 2 types of alcohol used: denatured alcohol (Alcohol denat) and fatty alcohol.

Denatured alcohol is a bad type of alcohol for skin care. It dehydrates your skin, leaving it feeling tight and damaging the skin barrier, leaving it dry and irritated.

All cosmetics contain alcohol.

All cosmetics contain alcohol.

Fatty alcohols are also known as good alcohols when it comes to your skin care. Unlike denatured alcohols, fatty alcohols do not dry out or irritate the skin as much as dehydrating alcohols. They make the formulas of products thicker, help moisturize the skin, protect the skin, and make it softer and smoother.

So, when we say alcohol-free cosmetics, it means that the product does not contain any denatured alcohol (Alcohol denat) and fatty alcohols are still used.

Note when choosing alcohol-free cosmetic products

To choose alcohol-free cosmetic products, you need to pay special attention to some issues: Read carefully the ingredients on the product packaging, choose products with clear origin; should look at the alcohol concentration on the product ingredients, should avoid using products with high alcohol concentration because it is harmful to the skin.

Alcohol is often found in products such as sunscreen and toner. So when choosing these two products, you need to pay special attention to the presence or concentration of alcohol.
