According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Thanh Nhan - Political Commissar of the Defense Command of Region 4, the unit will be operational from July 1, 2025, identifying the key task as being to quickly stabilize the organization, maintain combat readiness, training and discipline. Operational plans and documents are built systematically and long-term; stationing and guarding work is tightened, ensuring safety in all aspects.

At the same time, the unit focused on monitoring and grasping the situation in the area; maintaining information and communication; closely coordinating and managing the militia and reserve forces; maintaining strict discipline, etiquette, and military style. Logistics, technical, and financial work were promptly ensured to serve regular and unexpected tasks.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Duong - Commander of the Defense Command of Region 4 added that the defense and security situation in the special zones and the Southwestern sea and islands is stable, creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development. Phu Quoc special zone has received attention from the Central Government and the province for investing in many key projects to serve the APEC 2027 Conference, opening up great opportunities for tourism development, services and people's lives. However, the areas of the special zones also have many potential complications when crime, trade fraud, and violations at sea still occur; hostile and reactionary forces seek to take advantage of sensitive issues to sabotage. These are direct challenges for the military and defense tasks of the unit.

Faced with the requirements of the new period, the Defense Command of Region 4 - Phu Quoc Special Zone determined that the key task is to strictly implement the resolutions and directives of the Central Committee, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense , Military Region 9 and the Provincial Military Command. "The unit focuses on improving the quality of training, combat readiness, building a regular force, combined with strengthening Party work and political work. Regularly propagandize and educate officers, soldiers and people in the area to raise awareness of national defense and security tasks; train political mettle, vigilance and discipline. Grasp and closely forecast the situation, promptly and effectively handle all situations, avoid being passive and surprised", Lieutenant Colonel Le Thanh Nhan emphasized.

On the other hand, the Defense Command of Region 4 - Phu Quoc Special Zone strengthens close coordination with the Party Committees and authorities of Phu Quoc Special Zone, Tho Chau, Kien Hai to build a national defense foundation, a national defense posture associated with the people's security posture. At the same time, it will carry out well the training and combat exercises in the defense area; prevention and control of natural disasters, catastrophes, rescue and relief; prevention and control of fires and explosions; national defense and security education ; selection, calling for military service, development of party members to join the army; military recruitment. The work of building and training the militia and self-defense force, the reserve force and the military rear policy will continue to be focused on.
