Sugar and refined sugar foods : Sugar can cause inflammation and increase inflammation in the body. Limit foods high in sugar, such as candy, soda, and other sweets. Carbonated drinks and processed foods often contain refined sugar, which can cause inflammation by releasing cytokines and proteins. Inflammation can worsen arthritis symptoms.

Trans Fats : Diets high in omega-6 fatty acids, saturated fats, and trans fats can actually worsen inflammation and overall health. These “bad” fats are often found in butter, cheese, meat, fried foods, and processed foods. These fats can cause inflammation and worsen arthritis. Food sources of trans fats include fried foods, fast foods, and processed foods.

Red meat and processed meats : Red meat and processed foods (such as sausages and hot dogs) can increase inflammation and cause pain for people with arthritis. Red meat and processed meats are often high in saturated fat, which can stimulate the production of inflammatory substances in the body. Inflammation is a major factor in arthritis, causing pain, swelling, and stiffness in the joints. Limit your intake of these foods.

Milk and dairy products (in some people) : Some people with arthritis may experience worsening of symptoms when consuming milk or dairy products, due to their effect on the digestive system and inflammation.

Purine-rich foods : Purine can increase uric acid in the blood, leading to gout (a type of arthritis). Purine-rich foods include animal organs, red meat, seafood such as fish, shrimp, and crab.

Alcoholic beverages (wine, beer) : Alcohol can increase inflammation in the body and affect the ability of arthritis medications to work. Large amounts of alcohol can disrupt bone regeneration by preventing osteoblasts, bone cells, from doing their job. Once diagnosed with arthritis, limit alcohol consumption if at all. Alcohol can interact with medications, causing acute pain or making existing pain worse.

Processed foods and foods containing preservatives : Processed foods often contain chemicals and preservatives that can increase inflammation in the body. Processed foods often contain a lot of salt, which can negatively affect arthritis in a variety of ways, mainly by increasing inflammation and causing bone and joint problems. Eating a lot of salt can increase the excretion of calcium through urine, leading to calcium loss from bones. This can weaken bones and increase the risk of osteoporosis, a common problem in people with arthritis.

In addition to avoiding the above foods, people with arthritis should also supplement anti-inflammatory foods, such as fish rich in omega-3 (salmon, mackerel), green vegetables, berries, and foods rich in vitamin D and calcium.
