On the morning of September 11, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Tang Chi Thuong said that on the 8th working day of the rotating medical team in Con Dao, the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center welcomed a healthy baby.
Accordingly, at 8:10 p.m. on September 10, a newborn baby weighing 2.95 kg was born safely in the delivery room of the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.
The 39-week-old mother was directly delivered by Dr. Huynh Giang Chau (Hung Vuong Hospital). In addition, pediatrician Tran Thi Mai Lien (Children's Hospital 1) also took care of the newborn baby after birth.
It is known that about 3 weeks before the birth, the mother's family planned to fly to the mainland to give birth at the hospital.
When hearing that there were specialists, including obstetricians from Hung Vuong Hospital, working on rotation at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, the family decided not to fly to the mainland and would give birth in their hometown of Con Dao.
At that time, Dr. Huynh Giang Chau directly examined and discovered that the pregnant woman had moderate anemia and was at high risk of postpartum hemorrhage.
However, thanks to the Center being equipped with a Blood Bank, it is safe to assign pregnant women to give birth at the Center, without having to go to the mainland to give birth at the hospital.
The mother was directly delivered by a team of doctors and nurses, no different from giving birth at Hung Vuong Hospital. There was an obstetrician directly delivering the baby, and a pediatrician present in the delivery room to resuscitate the newborn immediately after birth.
The birth was safe, mother and child were both safe, the whole family and doctors were overwhelmed with joy and happiness.
Mr. Thuong added that in the past, when the pregnancy entered the 7th month, the pregnant women often had to fly to the mainland to wait for the birth before returning to the island. Currently, thanks to the obstetrician of Hung Vuong Hospital who is rotating to work at Con Dao Medical Center, pregnant women can safely give birth right at home.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health respectfully acknowledges and highly appreciates the efforts and serious working spirit of the specialist doctors who are rotating to work at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.
Daily work diary reports in recent days show that the number of people coming to the Center for examination and treatment has increased day by day, 2 to 3 times higher than before.
Notably, there have been cases of complex emergency surgery to save the patient's life, laparoscopic surgery for appendicitis, and most recently, the first birth in Con Dao that took place safely, with both mother and child safe.
