Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training has implemented a policy of mobilizing highly qualified human resources, including artisans, artists, professional athletes, and experts to participate in organizing educational activities in schools, especially in the fields of culture, arts, sports, and life skills.
To better understand the artists' approach to this policy, VietNamNet had an interview with musician Nguyen Van Chung - author of many songs that have recently impressed young people:
- From this school year, the Ministry of Education and Training has a policy of inviting artists, artisans, and athletes to participate in educational activities in high schools. As an artist, what do you think?
Musician Nguyen Van Chung in a recent exchange with students in Hanoi .
I have longed for such a policy. Since writing songs about children in 2012, I have visited 60 schools in Ho Chi Minh City to teach students to sing. Through this, I convey the message about studying and help them find their passion and direction after graduating from high school. As an artist, when I come to schools, I also want to show them the reality of the work and daily life of an artist, athlete... in society; so that they can narrow the gap between theory and practice when they meet, exchange, and listen to our practical experiences.
Therefore, I strongly support this policy and would be more than willing if schools invite me to participate in activities, extracurricular activities, clubs...
If I had more opportunities to visit schools, I could also share the message, tell the reasons and emotions when writing songs, and what I want to spread. I believe that by doing so, the children will love history more and study more actively and enthusiastically. From there, I will kindle in them a love for their homeland and country and when they grow up, they will become good citizens, contributing to their families and society.
Singer Tung Duong interacted with students of Nguyen Sieu Secondary and High School, Hanoi at the program celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Education and Training (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025).
- Through the times you have visited and shared at schools, how do you feel students receive this?
The children clearly showed interest and excitement. They really need to be exposed to real life to gain more experiences and develop comprehensively.
I want to write more, to convey more values through songs. I do not go to school and teach children to love their country, to love their Fatherland, but I let them know more about a song, then feel love, be impressed with each part of the lyrics. And from there, they will realize their love for their country, cherish peace ... I think that is also a way of education.
In your future plans, is there anything that goes along with the spirit and policies of the education sector?
I have participated in a number of extracurricular teaching programs or summer courses at schools, but mainly at international schools and private schools - where students have the initiative in financial resources and study schedules. But in public schools, this is more difficult, because the curriculum and program are often "rigid" regulations, such as how many periods must be studied in a semester for important subjects, music and extracurricular classes are sometimes neglected. Now, with this policy, if schools flexibly adjust their curriculum, timetables and arrange funding sources to maintain long-term, it is very suitable.
Musician Nguyen Van Chung said he clearly felt the enthusiasm and excitement of students through the exchanges and extracurricular activities with the participation of artists and artisans...
In reality, not all artists have the time and conditions to go to all schools. So should there be a suitable support mechanism for artists, athletes,... or a recognition to add encouragement. Now it is really difficult to invite A-list artists to all schools to teach, so why not create conditions for all artists to participate?
As a musician, in the future, I will write more songs about topics that touch my heart and can spread meaningful values. As a citizen, besides my job, I can go to schools, interact with students and share messages through the songs I have written so that they can have more lessons in life. I will definitely compose more songs about students and spread more.
Currently, Musician Nguyen Van Chung has composed about 700 songs on all topics; including more than 300 songs for children, 1 album about school. He was also awarded the record for "Young musician who composed the most children's songs in Vietnam".
