The enthusiasm of a young officer in the border area

Serious and dynamic in work, brave and intelligent in crime suppression, proactive and creative in Youth Union activities. Captain Vu Thanh Duc (born 1995), Deputy Station Chief of Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station, always receive the trust and admiration of officers, soldiers (CBCS) of the unit and people in the area.

Born and raised in the homeland of the Fourth Military Zone of Dong Trieu, since childhood, Vu Thanh Duc admired and wanted to wear the green uniform of a soldier. In 2017, after graduating from the Border Guard Academy, Vu Thanh Duc was assigned to work at the Border Guard Command of Da Nang City. In 2020, he was transferred to the Border Guard Station of Hon Gai Port (Ha Long City) and in April 2024, he worked at the Border Guard Station of Hoanh Mo (Binh Lieu District).

Captain Vu Thanh Duc shared: Through each unit and working area, I have had the opportunity to learn, cultivate and practice. Especially, when I returned to work in my hometown Quang Ninh, I further defined my role and responsibility, dedicating my efforts to the ideal of serving my homeland. From that awareness, during my work, I always strive to learn from the experiences of the officers and unit leaders, and practice strong political will to excellently complete the assigned professional tasks.

In position As Deputy Head of the Border Guard Station of Hoanh Mo, he has promoted the spirit of daring to think and dare to do, directing the unit's officers and soldiers, especially young officers and soldiers, to be proactive and creative in effectively carrying out patrol and control campaigns and tasks, fighting against smuggling, trade fraud, illegal transportation of goods, and illegal entry and exit across the border. In particular, in the fight against drug crimes, Captain Vu Thanh Duc always proactively summarizes and updates the methods and tricks of actual criminal activities on the border lines, thereby managing and guiding the units on how to check and control vehicles, goods, and luggage to ensure strictness, not to miss or let criminals escape. He and his teammates actively stick to the people, stick to the area, collect information, and at the same time promote the propaganda of the law to the people with the motto of relying on the people to protect the border and ensure security and order. In 2024 alone, Captain Vu Thanh Duc and officers of the Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station discovered, coordinated to arrest, and handled a total of 34 cases/79 law violators, of which 3 cases/4 subjects were criminally prosecuted for organizing illegal entry and exit for others; handled 31 cases/75 subjects for administrative violations, fined 459 million VND, the value of confiscated and destroyed goods was over 580 million VND.

Promoting the role of Deputy Secretary of the Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station Youth Union, Captain Vu Thanh Duc always shows enthusiasm and dynamism in volunteer activities for the community. Notably, he and the Youth Union members in the Youth Union regularly organize activities such as "Volunteer Saturday", "Green Sunday", and periodically clean up border markers and rivers in the area. At the same time, effectively maintain the organization of "Border Classes" to propagate the meaning and history of the border line and landmarks, educate awareness and responsibility to protect national border sovereignty for students inside and outside Binh Lieu district. In particular, implementing the models "Helping children go to school", "Adopted children of the Border Guard Station", every week the Youth Union assigns specific tasks to members to help with household chores and guide children in their studies; regularly visit, encourage, and give gifts to children on the occasion of holidays, New Year, and the beginning of the school year.

Not only is he good at his profession and enthusiastic in the work of the Youth Union, Captain Vu Thanh Duc is also a talented "artist" of the unit. He actively encourages the Youth Union members to participate in cultural and sports exchange programs organized by the unit and the locality, contributing to creating a healthy cultural playground for the unit's officers and soldiers, while also increasing solidarity and cohesion between the army and the people. Notably, under his organization and direction, the team of the Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station won first prize at the "Young Propaganda" contest in 2024 organized by the Provincial Border Guard.

With his dedication and efforts, Captain Vu Thanh Duc has been recognized and rewarded by all levels and sectors. He was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for his outstanding achievements in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style in the period of 2022-2024; a certificate of merit from the Director of the General Department of Politics for his outstanding achievements in Youth Union activities and youth movements in the period of 2017-2024. He is also one of 30 typical advanced youths following Uncle Ho's teachings in Quang Ninh province. period 2023-2025 and is being proposed for the Outstanding Young Face Award of Quang Ninh province in 2024.
