Opportunities for young readers
Recently, many writers who thought they had "put down their pens" have unexpectedly returned. The most prominent of these are two collections of short stories by two female authors published by the Vietnam Women's Publishing House, Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc ( Spring Lake ) and Da Ngan ( Will Carry It Along ). These two collections were selected by the writers themselves with the best and most unique works, spanning from 1971 with Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc and 1985 with Da Ngan until today.
Both writers delve into the fate of women, while Da Ngan recreates the loss, pain, joy, anger, love and hate that are closely associated with wartime and post-war, while Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc clarifies this topic in the hustle and bustle of daily life as well as on stage and in the life of an artist, for which she has long been famous as a talented director and screenwriter. It can be said that through these two excellent collections, familiar readers have had the opportunity to meet their favorite writing voices again, while the new generation of young readers also have the opportunity to find a good and unique collection of stories.
Many new works were released on this occasion.
In addition, the short story collection, 40 essays by poet - writer Le Giang entitled "Silky hair remembers mother" was also released by Tre Publishing House. The book is a selection from published works such as "Kitchen smoke does not disappear", "Bon qua lich uong " ... thereby showing the hardships of wartime as well as her journey to preserve and explore the Southern folk heritage with musician Lu Nhat Vu. Tre Publishing House has also brought back nostalgic pieces of the late author Le Van Nghia with Saigon through memories , towards the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.
Regarding novels, after many years away from Vietnam, translator - author Ly Lan will soon have an event to meet domestic readers on the occasion of the re-release of the children's book My Secret and Black Lizard . Meanwhile, besides the famous novel The Wharf Without a Husband which has just been translated into English, writer Duong Huong also returns with Shadow and the Sun (Vietnamese Women's Publishing House) throughout many turbulent periods of the country, thereby showing the talent and special voice of one of the writers who has made important contributions to modern Vietnamese literature after 1975.
Sharing with Thanh Nien , a representative of Tre Publishing House said: "We made Bac Dau Nho Ma as the final book, synthesizing the creative life and personal life of poet - writer Le Giang at the age of 95. Meanwhile, Saigon through the memories of the late author Le Van Nghia includes good articles but are still scattered and have not been compiled, so that through this book, readers who have never approached the author will have a first encounter that is easy to read and easy to feel. This is also what we did with My Secret and Black Lizard by Ly Lan with beautiful covers and attractive illustrations, hoping to be able to approach a new generation of readers easily."
Many selected works, returning after many decades, also appeared.
New discoveries
In addition to the works that have reappeared, many famous writers have also released new works, thereby reflecting society and showing the responsibility of intellectuals in general, and artists in particular, towards the reality of life. One of them is Doc Duong 2 (Nha Nam & Writers Association Publishing House, 2025) by writer Nguyen Ngoc, which includes articles revolving around many topics, from editorials to unpublished memoirs and anthropological studies on the Central Highlands. In the articles, we always clearly see his concerns about current issues, about how education, culture, literature and art can complement economic development so that the rise can achieve balance.
After a series of novels and short story collections, writer Ho Anh Thai has returned with the essay collection The World Is Longer Than a Human Footstep . Still with a satirical, humorous, and mocking writing style, he has explored many issues from literature, movies, drama... to paradoxes or daily events seen and heard in today's society. In addition, after nearly 9 years since her most recent work, writer Phan Thi Vang Anh has just returned with The Story of Ti's House (and the stories of many other families ). This new book focuses more on the trivial matters of a family and very ordinary people - people we can meet every day, on social networks or news channels... thereby showing a life with many barriers, so that through smiles we know how to care and turn to each other more.
Another highly anticipated comeback is writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu with his new book The Call of the Horizon . Following Tomorrow of Tomorrows, which was republished in 2024, and previously released The Luggage of Nothingness, Cold Smoke in Hands ..., this new work is still small but emotional essays with the introduction "Even though exhausted, people still move forward, because somewhere at the end of the horizon, maybe there is still a ray of light". The book is expected to be released next March by Tre Publishing House.
The above-mentioned returns to the literary world can be said to be a welcome signal, when facing the dominance of translated literature, domestic readers are increasingly having more opportunities to access quality works by famous writers, thereby opening up many possibilities of reading, understanding, spreading to new names, promising to create an attractive biosphere of Vietnamese literature.
