At Dinh Thanh Prison, Ministry of Public Security , Dinh Thanh Commune in early September, many people were waiting outside early. This is the time when the unit organizes the amnesty ceremony. This year, the prison has nearly 170 prisoners who were granted amnesty by the President. Colonel Phan Van Hai - Warden of Dinh Thanh Prison emphasized: "The amnesty work is organized and implemented seriously, ensuring democracy, objectivity, fairness, publicity, transparency, strictness, correct subjects and conditions according to the Amnesty Law 2018. All prisoners who meet the conditions are considered for amnesty; no prisoner who is not qualified is considered for amnesty".

On behalf of the pardoned prisoners, Mr. NTN expressed his gratitude to the Board of Supervisors and the Council of Officers of Dinh Thanh Prison for creating the best conditions for him to serve his sentence, actively strive to work, study and train, and soon enjoy the leniency policy of the Party and the State. He himself was very happy that his efforts to serve and reform were rewarded by being considered for early release from prison.
Mr. N shared: “Being pardoned, I feel happy and honored, and from then on, I cherish, cherish, and preserve my new life. I am determined not to do anything against my conscience or the law, and not to wait until it is too late to repent like in the past. Besides, I hope to receive more attention and help from leaders at all levels, agencies, unions, organizations... so that those who have been pardoned can firmly walk on the path that still has many difficulties and challenges ahead.”

After being considered for a reduction in her prison sentence before the end of her term, Ms. NKH was very excited: “We made mistakes, violated the law and had to suffer punishments at different levels and for different crimes; had to endure separation and distance from family and society. But that does not mean losing everything, but it is the foundation for those who know how to learn profound life lessons from mistakes, determined to rise up and return to normal life.”
Amnesty is a superior regime of our State, “hitting the one who runs away, not the one who runs back”, compassion and humanity, always tolerant, lenient, encouraging prisoners to repent, reform, actively work, study and practice to improve. The path to rehabilitation is the goal of every prisoner during the process of studying and reforming in prison. But amnesty is only the beginning of the path to good after they have completed their prison sentence.
“We believe that, with the responsibility and affection of their families, the care of all sectors, levels and the community, those who have been granted amnesty will certainly overcome difficulties, become more confident, steadfast and always take control of themselves in life, towards a bright future. Each person should choose a stable job, quickly integrate into society, and always be a good citizen. In addition, for prisoners who have not yet received amnesty, I hope everyone will have peace of mind, try harder, strictly comply with the regulations of the detention facility; actively study and work to reform to soon be eligible for the leniency policy of the Party and the State,” Colonel Phan Van Hai advised.
Not only amnesty, every year the State has many rounds of consideration to reduce prison sentences, early release of prisoners for progressive rehabilitation. This is also a condition for criminals to strive to return to their families soon, reintegrate into the community, stabilize their lives, and build happy and prosperous families.
