In a final vote at the Palace of Versailles, the two houses of the French National Assembly approved the bill with 780 votes in favor and 72 votes against, Reuters reported.
French President Emmanuel Macron said the decision was "a source of pride for France" and helped send a "global message".
He also decided to hold a ceremony to celebrate this important event in Paris on International Women's Day (March 8).
After the vote, the Eiffel Tower was lit up with the slogan "My Body My Choice" to mark the momentous occasion.
On January 30, the French National Assembly passed a bill submitted by the government , including the right to "voluntary termination of pregnancy" in the Constitution, then the Senate made a similar decision on February 28.
France passed a law on women's legal right to abortion in 1975, which has since been amended and supplemented several times.
With this move, France becomes the first country in the world to include regulations on abortion rights in basic law.
