Sustainable development for Vietnam friendship

Pakse is still a cool day, with light rain. Our group departed from the Vietnam-Laos Rubber Company to the Dau Tieng - Vietnam-Laos Rubber Company, only about a 10-minute drive. The Dau Tieng - Vietnam-Laos Rubber Company is headquartered in Nomnamkhaonoy village, Bachiang district, Champasak province, and officially opened on January 1, 2007.

VRG brings "white gold" to Laos:

The total land area for rubber development projects currently managed by the company in Champasak and Salavan provinces (Laos) is more than 6,700 hectares. The company has 4 farms and 1 processing factory with a total workforce of about 1,600 people.

With the support of VRG, the Vietnamese Consulate General in 4 southern provinces of Laos, the leaders of Binh Duong province, and local authorities in the project area, Dau Tieng - Viet Lao Rubber Company has had favorable conditions for sustainable development in Laos.

After 17 years of operation, the project has created regular jobs for more than 1,600 local workers with stable incomes. Social security in the project area is focused on implementing welfare projects such as electricity, well drilling, spillway construction, inter-village road construction, pagoda and school construction and repair, and other welfare activities.

The average annual latex harvest output is 8,500 - 10,000 tons; building a latex processing factory system with 2 standard production lines, annual processing output from 15,000 - 18,000 tons.

This is also one of the projects that strongly promotes the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Laos, and is a sustainable project that creates jobs for thousands of Lao workers. Currently, planting, caring for, and harvesting rubber latex has become very familiar to people in the area and around the project area. People have grasped and learned a lot about the techniques of planting, caring for, exploiting, and processing rubber latex; on that basis, they have planted rubber trees, gradually improving their family economy .

The sustainable development of the project has also brought a new look to Bachiang district - the poorest district in Champasak province with significant changes, many tiled-roof houses have replaced simple wooden houses, creating many positive changes in living conditions; spirit and life are increasingly prosperous and full...

Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, Consulate General of Vietnam in Paske City (Champasak) said that VRG's rubber development project in Laos in recent times has received much attention, direction and support from the Government , ministries and relevant agencies of Vietnam and Laos.

Among the projects invested by VRG in rubber plantation in Laos, there have been 3 effective investment projects, bringing high profits, namely Vietnam-Laos Rubber Company, Quasa - Geruco Rubber Company and Dau Tieng - Vietnam-Laos Rubber Company. Typical of which is the project of Vietnam-Laos Rubber Company with an area of ​​over 10,000 hectares, annual exploitation output reaching over 15,000 tons, total revenue in the past 5 years (from 2018 - 2022) reaching over 3,000 billion VND, creating jobs for more than 2,600 workers. This is also the first project invested by VRG in Laos to be awarded the title of Labor Hero in the renovation period by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Since implementing the rubber development program in Laos from 2005 to present, VRG has invested in building many social security works to serve people in and around the project area, always paying attention to supporting the locality to do well in social security work, charity, welfare works to serve production, at the same time practically serving workers and people in the project area. In addition, rubber projects have contributed to supporting localities in building or repairing roads, bridges, schools, markets, local offices, forest protection houses, etc. Thereby, strengthening the good and trustworthy relationship between enterprises and the community, bringing benefits in infrastructure to the project area and stable income for local workers. Workers' income has gradually improved, each year higher than the previous year, and policies for workers are guaranteed, so workers feel secure in their work, trust and are attached to VRG's projects.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trung emphasized that VRG's implementation of the rubber planting investment program in Laos since 2005 is a correct direction, contributing to the success in political, economic, social, and diplomatic aspects, and beautifying the Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam friendship "forever green and sustainable".

Lao government enthusiastically supports

To better understand the first stage of bringing rubber to Laos, we met Mr. Le Minh Chau, one of the pioneers in developing the rubber tree planting project in Laos. At that time, Mr. Chau was the Director of Phu Rieng Rubber Company.

Mr. Chau shared that at the beginning, VRG planted rubber in Laos and received enthusiastic support from the Lao Government, at that time Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith was the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of agriculture (now the President of Lao PDR). Accordingly, Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith had a plan for the company in one working session.

Recalling the year 2004 when VRG started bringing rubber trees to Laos, Mr. Chau could not help but be moved: "There were only more than 10 of us, we named the working group 904 because we went in September 2004, I believe no one in the group can forget this name."

According to Mr. Le Minh Chau, with the attention of the Lao Government, VRG has laid a favorable foundation for rubber tree development in Laos. In addition, VRG's rubber tree planting in Laos aims at the biggest goal of creating a cooperative and comprehensive development relationship between the two countries; the surplus value from the project will be reinvested by the rubber industry for the social security of Laos.

Accordingly, people in the rubber project area now have full facilities such as electricity, roads, schools, and medical stations. People have a stable income from the time of planting rubber until the garden is put into exploitation.
