Seminar "Work to encourage learning, encourage talents, build a learning society, and a learning city in Ho Chi Minh City"
The seminar "Work to promote learning, encourage talents, build a learning society, and a learning city in Ho Chi Minh City" organized by the Propaganda Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee this morning, October 9, attracted many notable comments from localities, organizations, and units in Ho Chi Minh City.
Don't let the burden of tuition stop students
Mr. Tran Nam, Head of Student Affairs Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said that in the current context, many universities have very high tuition fees, which makes it difficult for many students to access education . This raises the issue of how to have a foundation to help students continue their studies and have high career opportunities. How to prevent tuition fees from becoming a barrier to prevent students from entering the lecture hall.
Mr. Tran Nam said that at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City, currently 20% of the students are from Ho Chi Minh City and 80% of them come from other provinces. Many of the students are children of farmers, this poses a problem for the school, it needs to have solutions so that students with difficulties cannot drop out of school.
Mr. Tran Nam informed that the school's majors keep tuition fees from 14,300,000 VND - 29,800,000 VND/year; each semester, students only have to pay from 7 million to nearly 15 million VND. In the context of market pressure, revenue sources, and university autonomy, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, still maintains many majors with tuition fees of about 14 million VND/year. With this fee, it will create conditions for students and families to access, helping their children to go to school, because as a public university, the school has missions and goals to serve society and the community.
Mr. Tran Nam, Head of Student Affairs Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University)
"Every year, the school awards about 27 billion VND in scholarships to support students, with diverse scholarship sources from alumni, businesses, and tuition support scholarships from the school...", said Mr. Tran Nam.
In addition, according to Mr. Tran Nam, the encouragement of learning, talent, and lifelong learning is also reflected in the constant focus on training according to social needs and for society. The school's units organize many training courses for undergraduate, master's, doctoral degrees as well as short-term certificates continuously throughout the year. The school also has an online distance learning program to create conditions for students and teachers to study, improve their expertise, and improve their qualifications...

Mr. Le Hong Son, Member of the City Party Committee, Permanent Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee
"The work of promoting learning and talent must develop further and more broadly."
Mr. Le Hong Son, member of the City Party Committee, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Propaganda Department, said that when Ho Chi Minh City was officially recognized as a member of the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network (February 2024), this was also a milestone to further promote the city's work of promoting learning and talent. The work of promoting learning and talent must be developed higher and wider. This is also the work, responsibility, and role of the entire political system and all levels of organizations, not just the responsibility of the education and training sector, labor - war invalids and social affairs or promoting learning.
Mr. Son also hopes that agencies, units, and learning promotion associations at all levels in the coming time will continue to promote the positive results achieved, overcome difficulties in the work of promoting learning and talent, focus on modernizing and digitizing some content to keep up with some subjects, and reach learners as quickly as possible. At the same time, it is necessary to continue to link learning promotion work with the school system, especially focusing on information and communication work.
Mr. Le Hong Son emphasized that, from the perspective of the country in general, Ho Chi Minh City in particular, if we want to develop a sustainable socio-economic situation, we cannot ignore the work of education and training, and encouragement of learning and talent. There are professions that directly bring high economic value, but there are also very important indirect professions, without which there will be no strength, that is education and training, vocational training, and encouragement of learning and talent - without which there will be no training of people, no talent. Therefore, promoting investment in education and training, vocational training, and encouragement of learning and talent is also an investment in the development of the city and the country.
