Preventing the sixth generation of small leaf rollers that cause damage in the fields

On the morning of September 12, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection coordinated with the People's Committee of Nguyen Binh Khiem commune to organize the implementation of the work of directing the spraying of pesticides for the 6th batch of small leaf rollers to protect the winter-spring rice crop and to conduct mobile propaganda on pest control to protect the winter-spring rice crop.

According to a survey by the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, Nguyen Binh Khiem commune has the highest density of rice pests/eggs in the city.

Representatives of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection quickly informed about the pest situation, guided farmers on the use of drugs and measures to prevent pests in general, and small leaf rollers in particular. At the same time, requested the commune and localities to step up propaganda on pest prevention and control to protect the rice crop to farmers.

Last week, the Hai Phong area had alternating sunny and rainy weather, with average temperatures, making spraying pesticides difficult and not really effective. Pests grew and developed quickly with high density.

Up to now, in the rice area that has ripened (about 21,000 hectares), the sixth generation of small leaf rollers and adults of small leaf rollers have been swarming in the fields (mature from September 5 onwards). The common adult density is 5-10 individuals/m2, in some places it is 20-30 individuals/m2, and in some places it is 50-70 individuals/m2.

Mobile propaganda on pest control to protect winter-spring rice in Nguyen Binh Khiem commune

Common egg density is 50-70 eggs/m2, in high places 100-150 eggs/m2, in some places 400-500 eggs/m2. Common larval density (instar 1) is 30-40 eggs/m2, in high places 80-100 eggs/m2, in some places 200-300 eggs/m2.

In the coming time, the density of eggs and larvae will continue to increase in the fields and cause damage to the flag leaves in the rice areas that have not yet ripened. The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection has warned that the density of the 6th generation of small leaf rollers this year is very high, many times higher than the same period last year. Therefore, localities need to continue to promote propaganda work, urgently and promptly deploy pest control measures in the following manner: right medicine, right dosage, right time.
