VIDEO : Images of devastation in Phu Trach commune (Quang Tri) after storm No. 10
At dawn on September 29, reporters from the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper were present in Phu Trach commune, Quang Tri province to record the scene of devastation after storm No. 10 swept through this locality.
Along Highway 1 through Phu Trach commune, the entire countryside was transformed into a "battlefield". Dozens of broken electric poles lay scattered across the road; uprooted trees blocked the path. Corrugated iron roofs, broken tiles, signs, and household items were scattered and piled on top of each other, creating a chaotic scene...
In just a 5km stretch through Phu Trach commune, reporters recorded a series of fallen electric poles and tangled electric wires hanging down onto the road, making travel extremely dangerous.
A local business was devastated by the wind.
In the residential area, many houses had their roofs completely blown off, leaving behind a desolate, cold scene. The house of Mrs. Trinh Thi Mung (71 years old, Dong Hung village, Phu Trach commune) now has only bare wet brick walls, tiles scattered all over the garden. Pots, tables, chairs, and household items lie mixed in the mud and piles of broken tiles.
"It's been a long time since I've seen such a big storm. When the storm came, I had to run to my son's house to avoid it. The wind blew all night, and by morning, there was nothing left. The rice and property were all soaked by the rain. I felt so sorry for them!" - Mrs. Mung choked up.
On the streets, people took advantage of the momentary lull in the wind to go out into their gardens and alleys to check their houses. Many had gaunt faces and dark circles under their eyes from staying up all night listening to the howling wind and the rustling of the tin roofs.
In a quick conversation with a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , Mr. Pham Minh Canh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Trach Commune, said that the storm had passed but heavy rains were still continuing. During the night, the local authorities and police worked hard to clear fallen trees to ensure safety for National Highway 1 and inter-village roads.
"At present, two fishing boats have been sunk by waves. The government is coordinating with relevant agencies to salvage them and reduce damage to the people. We cannot yet fully assess the situation, but dozens of electric poles and trees have been broken, many houses have had their roofs blown off, and the damage is estimated to be very large," Mr. Canh informed.
