Will inspect and rectify illegal eco-tourism sites in Hue

On August 13, the leader of the Hue City Economic and Industrial Zone Management Board said that the unit will coordinate with Chan May - Lang Co commune to inspect and rectify the activities of Suoi Tien eco- tourism area which has been operating illegally for many years.

According to the unit leader, Suoi Tien was previously a community tourism spot under the eco-tourism development project, streams and waterfalls of the old Phu Loc district.

The business and development of eco-tourism at Suoi Tien is assigned to Thuy An Agricultural Cooperative.

After Thuy Yen Lake is built, this tourist destination is required to comply with the operating licenses for transporting passengers by boat in the lake according to regulations.

According to Mr. Phong, previously, Thuy An Agricultural Cooperative was granted a license to operate within the protection area of ​​the Thuy Yen reservoir irrigation project by the People's Committee of the former Thua Thien Hue province on October 22, 2018, for a period of 5 years.

This cooperative also proposed to establish an investment project in an eco-tourism area to be able to meet the procedures related to long-term licenses when operating in the lake.

However, since the above operating license expired on October 22, 2023, the investor has repeatedly allowed the tourist area to operate illegally, collecting ticket fees from tourists and many other taxes and fees.

After many meetings, Hue City Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited (the management unit of Thuy Yen Lake) has sent a document requesting the cooperative to stop tourism business activities in Suoi Tien to ensure the safety of the lake as well as the lives of tourists.

Next, Hue City People's Committee also sent a document to the cooperative requesting that during this period, tourism activities at Suoi Tien must be stopped according to the company's request.

However, due to the hot summer in Hue, the actual need of people as well as tourists wanting to come and have fun and cool off at Suoi Tien is real, so this tourist area is still operating "illegally" as reported by the press.

"In the near future, we will coordinate with the authorities of Chan May - Lang Co commune to inspect and rectify tourism activities here, as well as have a plan to see whether tourism activities here ensure safety according to regulations or not to report to competent authorities to consider ending this activity or have a plan to continue the operation," said this leader.
