Driver ran red light to take patient to emergency room: Not punished but praised for humane action

According to information from the Traffic Police Department, on the afternoon of June 9, the traffic surveillance camera system at the intersection of Nguyen Van Cu - 3/2 Street, Da Lat City recorded a car with license plate 49A-738.14 driven by Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh running a red light. Therefore, the authorities invited the driver to come to work. After working, the reason for the driver running the red light was clarified and it was a humane and touching story.

Mr. Thanh shared: While traveling on Ta Nung Pass, he discovered a young man driving a motorbike who had fallen and was lying motionless in critical condition due to severe head trauma. Without hesitation, he decided to take the victim to the nearest hospital. In an emergency, to save time, he was forced to run a red light at the intersection mentioned above.

The hospital's verification showed that the victim suffered a traumatic brain injury and right eye injury, and Mr. Thanh's timely arrival contributed significantly to the treatment. Previously, some articles in the press reflected that Mr. Thanh was worried about the possibility of being fined, facing a large fine and the risk of having his driving license points deducted. However, after reviewing all the camera data and verifying the information, the Traffic Police Department decided not to impose an administrative penalty, and at the same time acknowledged his sense of responsibility.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tiep - Head of the Traffic Police Department of Lam Dong Province, emphasized: "Mr. Thanh's actions demonstrate a spirit of humanity and high responsibility. In a special case like this, we flexibly apply the law on a humane basis, while respecting his noble gesture."
