On the evening of September 30, a clip appeared on social media showing a male student teasingly hugging and stroking a female teacher’s hair at the teacher’s desk. The incident was later determined to have occurred at Thach Ban High School, Long Bien District.
On the afternoon of October 2, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that the unit had received a report from Thach Ban High School about the incident.
According to the school's report, the male student in the clip is TNMĐ, class 10A4, and the female teacher in the clip is MQT (born in 2001), a contract literature teacher.
The incident happened during the break between the 2nd and 3rd periods (around 9am) on September 27, in classroom 10A4. The student who filmed the clip was KTM, also in class 10A4.
As soon as the incident was learned, on the evening of September 30, the school's Board of Directors exchanged information with the Long Bien District Police and related parties (teachers, students in the clip, students who filmed the clip, homeroom teachers, parents of students, etc.). On October 1, the official working session between the school and the parties took place.
After the meeting, the information was clarified as follows: Student TNMĐ. was an acquaintance of the teacher from before. This student admitted that he had joked excessively with the teacher and was not aware that his behavior was inappropriate at that time.
KTM (the student who filmed the clip) also realized that his behavior was wrong because at that time, he only thought he was filming the clip to tease his friend.
At the meeting, the parents of the two students involved in the incident were aware of their children's inappropriate behavior and completely agreed with the school's handling of the matter; committed to being more attentive in managing and educating their children, and hoped that the school would create conditions for their children to continue studying and practicing at school with peace of mind. The family of student TNMĐ. committed to cooperating with the school to resolve the matter.
Teacher MQT wrote a report and a self-criticism, strictly acknowledging her shortcomings in allowing the incident to occur. At that time, Ms. MQT reminded the students to stop their behavior. However, Ms. MQT admitted that she lacked knowledge and skills in pedagogy, which is why the incident occurred.
Thach Ban High School said that the unit has temporarily suspended and assigned a substitute teacher to teach teacher MQT while the incident is resolved. The school's board of directors has also informed the teaching staff about the incident so that all members of the school can know and learn from the experience.
Based on the nature of the incident, the school will continue to review and discipline violators according to regulations, and do a good job of prevention to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
