Heavy rain caused flooding in Vijayawada city, Andhra Pradesh state, southern India on September 2.

This development has prompted Indian authorities to issue weather warnings in the eastern part of the country, especially in the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. Rainfall in these areas is forecast to increase. Warm waters in the Bay of Bengal are said to be suitable conditions for the remnants of Cyclone Yagi to intensify.

Forming in the western Pacific Ocean as a low pressure area, Yagi later intensified into a storm and swept across the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar.

Myanmar authorities on September 14 had to call for foreign assistance after floods forced more than 235,000 people to evacuate. Heavy rains following Typhoon Yagi also forced people in other countries in the region to leave their homes to find safe shelter.
