TPO - 49 rescued wild animals such as giant tortoises, giant tortoises, reticulated pythons, pythons, pig-tailed macaques, clouded monitor lizards, small-clawed otters, Java pangolins,... were released back into the wild.

On April 9, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department informed that the unit had just coordinated with the Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve (Ma Da commune, Vinh Cuu district) to release 49 rare wild animals into the natural environment.

The number of wild animals released into the natural forest belongs to 11 species, including: giant tortoise, giant tortoise, golden mountain tortoise, three-ridged tortoise, reticulated python, ground python, pig-tailed macaque, long-tailed macaque, clouded monitor lizard, small-clawed otter, and Java pangolin.

According to the HCM City Forest Protection Department, the above animals are all in group IIB in the list of rare and endangered wild animals, mainly voluntarily handed over by local people. After receiving them from local people, they were brought to the Wildlife Rescue Station in Cu Chi district for rescue and temporary care.

Wild animals that are in good health and meet the conditions will be released back into the wild, near streams, with adequate food and water, suitable to the species' living characteristics. Before release, the authorities surveyed the location and assessed the natural forest environment, ensuring that the animals could survive well.

According to forest rangers, wild animals have a natural instinct to attack humans. Capturing, storing, buying and selling wild animals without reporting to the forest rangers and without documents proving legal origin is a violation of the law.

The agency recommends that people who discover rare or dangerous wild animals that have escaped should immediately report to local authorities. Those who want to hand over their animals to authorities should contact the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department for support and handling.
