Sound of Time, saxophone album by 9x artist

It's been a long time since Vietnamese music has had a purely instrumental studio album by a young artist. The 9x artist Bao Anh Taruki must love the saxophone very much to make that decision.

Bao Anh Taruki, 32 years old, is the only son of People's Artist Thai Bao and Meritorious Artist Anh Tuan (Vietnam National Music, Dance and Dance Theater).

Not choosing a singing career like her mother, nor holding drumsticks like her father, Bao Anh pursued and graduated from the clarinet and saxophone major at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

He also learned more "tricks of the trade" from two teachers in the North and South, Tran Manh Tuan and Quyen Thien Dac.

Bao Anh has just won the Outstanding Saxophone Performer award at the 2024 National Band Festival.

He has just released the album Thanh am thoi gian, which includes seven Vietnamese-Japanese medleys, linked to his own past journey.

In her debut studio album, Bao Anh wants to dedicate herself and her audience to the beautiful melodies of life.

In addition to some works such as Melodies of life (Nobuo Uematsu), Laputa (Joe Hisaishi), A town with an ocean view (Joe Hisaishi), there are also familiar recordings such as Midday dream (Giang Son), May rain (Tran Lap - Tran Tuan Hung), Even though it's not you (Dinh Manh Ninh) and Fresh dreams (Lan Pham).

Accompanying this album are the MVs "Afternoon Dream" , "A Town with an Ocean View" and "Sora Mo Toberu Hzu" (I Can Fly Up to the Sky).

The album Sound of Time has the pure, pristine, and warm feeling of emotions. You can also hear the artist's playfulness and swaying when he lets his soul drift with the trumpet sound.

Bao Anh plays the saxophone quite smoothly in the smooth jazz style. This is not surprising since he idolizes Kenny G - an artist who plays this style. The album is neat and clean.

Unfortunately, the artist's saxophone still lacks moments of sublimation, climax and emotional explosion to make the debut album sharper and more personal.

However, for a debut album, being able to do what Bao Anh did was a great effort on his part. As saxophonist Tran Manh Tuan said, the album has "a soaring harmony and a gradually matured trumpet sound, the technique is really smooth and very sweet in each piece. Let's keep going and our path, let's keep going, Bao Anh".

Speaking to Tuoi Tre , Tran Manh Tuan praised the album for having a clear concept, carrying an Eastern sound with beautiful melodies.

Tran Manh Tuan said he feels proud and happy to have young people "continuing" the journey of Vietnamese saxophone. He often reminds young people that now they have many opportunities to access modern technical means and musical instruments as well as easily integrate with trends and movements in the world .

"However, never forget your roots, the Eastern essence flowing within you. That is the reason why you play the saxophone, a Western instrument but still hear the Vietnamese spirit in it. That will tell who you are," Tran Manh Tuan advised.

Bao Anh said that in this album, there were some songs that he had to record many times. For example, Even though it's not you, even though the mix is ​​only 5 minutes long, the artist spent 4 hours recording. Walking out of the studio was very tiring but felt like he had reached the "satisfaction" in music .

Bao Anh is 32 years old this year. That "great experience" has only just begun. There are still many endless discoveries ahead.
