Ho Chi Minh Road, the section passing through Bac Gia Nghia ward, Lam Dong province, has been sinking for more than 2 years now and 2/4 of the road section is damaged and cannot be used.

Accordingly, the Project to repair and overcome the situation of the Ho Chi Minh road section that has collapsed and collapsed was approved by the People's Committee of Dak Nong province (old) on June 30, 2025 with a total investment of more than 71 billion VND. Basically, this road section will be handled in the direction of reinforcing the negative slope with concrete retaining walls, adding a drainage system, restoring the roadbed to its original state, ensuring normal traffic as before the incident in August 2023.

According to the report of Duc Long Dak Nong BOT & BT Joint Stock Company (project investor), the Company is currently coordinating with related units to complete the survey; complete the design documents of construction drawings - estimates. After that, a bidding will be organized to select the construction contractor, supervision consultant, project management unit... It is expected that by the beginning of 2026, construction will be deployed and completed around the end of the year.

According to the investor, the project still faces many important difficulties and problems. Typically, the dumping site has not yet been determined and there is not enough legal basis for the coordination and use of the fill from Dak Nut B mine (in the administrative boundary of Bac Gia Nghia ward, about 8km from the project).

"The project's proposed dumping site is a land area managed by the State, within the administrative boundaries of Bac Gia Nghia ward. However, this area has only been proposed for planning and has not been approved by Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee. As for the project's fill, the Company has worked with the Dak Nut B mine investor and the two sides have basically agreed. However, the Dak Nut B mine owner requires a written consent from Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee or Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment to have sufficient legal basis. Currently, the Company is requesting the relevant authorities to soon approve the dumping site as well as approve the Dak Nut B mine investor to provide fill for the project," a representative of the Investor added.

According to the leader of the People's Committee of Bac Gia Nghia Ward, there are 17 households living below the negative slope of the collapsed road section and many of them have been affected by subsidence and landslides from above, leading to wall knots and house cracks. The functional agencies of Dak Nong province (old) have concluded that the main cause of subsidence and landslides is due to prolonged rain, combined with weak geological foundations and unstable slopes. Currently, the risk of landslides and subsidence in the coming rainy seasons still exists. If there is no fundamental solution, the lives of households will continue to be threatened.

Mr. Vo Hoang Son, Vice Chairman of Bac Gia Nghia Ward People's Committee, said that the functional departments of Lam Dong province have worked with the local government. The parties agreed to assign Bac Gia Nghia Ward People's Committee to review, complete the report and propose a resettlement plan for 17 households. The dossier will be sent to the Department of Construction for synthesis and consultation with Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee for consideration and settlement according to regulations.

According to the Lam Dong Province Department of Construction, the unit has coordinated with local authorities to review and conduct a preliminary inspection of the landslide area and make an initial assessment of the potential danger. Especially in the conditions of prolonged heavy rain, the risk continues to pose a threat to the safety of people living below.

Regarding the repair and overcoming of subsidence on this road section, at the end of August 2025, the Vietnam Road Administration sent an official dispatch requesting the Lam Dong Department of Construction to urge the investor to urgently complete the repair work and overcome the damage in accordance with regulations, ensuring safe and smooth traffic.

Ho Chi Minh Road is currently the main route connecting Lam Dong and the Central Highlands provinces with the Southeast provinces and Ho Chi Minh City. Nearly 2 years after the subsidence and landslide incident in Bac Gia Nghia ward, traffic on this route is regulated through 2/4 of the remaining lanes. This situation makes traffic inconvenient and prone to traffic accidents.
