The "capital" of peach and kumquat in the Mining land is bustling during the Tet season

Coming to Binh Khe ward, Dong Trieu city ( Quang Ninh ), which is known as the "capital" of peach, kumquat, and Tet flowers of Quang Ninh province, it is easy to see busy vehicles of traders coming to place orders.

After storm number 3, Ms. Lieu's kumquat garden went from having 700 trees to now only 400 trees.

In the peach, kumquat, and flower fields in Ninh Binh area, Binh Khe ward, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lieu nimbly trims the leaves on the kumquat trees taller than a person, with juicy fruits.

Ms. Lieu’s family garden had more than 700 kumquat trees. After storm number 3, the entire field collapsed, so the whole family had to work day and night to save the trees.

“Despite the huge damage, thanks to good techniques, the garden has now recovered over 400 trees. In the past few days, customers have been coming to order in droves, each tree costs from 1 million to more than 1.7 million VND. Before, I thought Tet would be lost, but now I feel at ease,” Ms. Lieu shared.

Ms. Lieu introduces kumquat trees priced at about 1.5-1.7 million VND.

Standing and admiring the kumquat beds of Ms. Lieu's family, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, a customer from Ha Long City, came to order and excitedly boasted: "Every year I come here to order to sell during Tet. After storm No. 3, I heard that the garden suffered a lot of damage, I was worried that this year there would be no products to sell. But now when I come here, I am overwhelmed, not knowing which bed to choose to buy."

A few hundred meters from Ms. Lieu's family garden is Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy's gladiolus growing area. Here, many customers come to buy wholesale flowers, priced at 5,000-7,000 VND/plant, with half the price paid in advance.

“People in Binh Khe ward have a long tradition of growing flowers, kumquats, and peaches, so every household is well off. Currently, the whole commune has about 200 hectares of cultivated land. My family also has nearly ten sao.

This season the flowers are beautiful, if sold out, I can get about 25-30 million VND/sao. Roughly calculating, this Tet I can earn several hundred million VND from gladiolus flowers", Ms. Thuy boasted.

Mr. Tinh takes care of peach trees, hoping to sell them for a good price.

Leaving Ninh Binh area, PV continued to the flower, peach and kumquat growing area in Dong Do area, Binh Khe ward.

While watering peach trees in the middle of the field, Mr. Tran Van Tinh, who lives in Dong Do area, said: His family's peach garden has over 400 trees, planted nearly a year ago. When the peach trees started to grow well, Typhoon Yagi hit them hard. After the storm, his family tried very hard but could only save over 200 trees.

“This is the time that determines Tet income. If not taken care of properly, the flowers will be uneven and the branches will wilt, making it difficult to sell.

But fortunately, the tree is growing beautifully now. Every year, each tree sells for about 300-500 thousand, this year the price will probably be higher because many places where the trees were dug have suffered damage,” Mr. Tinh hopes.
