Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai holds the position of Secretary of Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee

On the morning of September 30, the 1st Congress of Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030 opened at the Provincial Convention Center.

At the Congress, Deputy Head of the Central Organizing Committee Nguyen Quang Duong announced the Politburo 's Decision on mobilizing, assigning, and appointing the position of Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term.

Specifically, the Politburo decided that Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense , ceased to participate in the Central Military Commission for the 2020-2025 term, ceased to hold the position of Deputy Minister of National Defense and related positions, transferred and appointed to participate in the Executive Committee, Standing Committee to hold the position of Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term, and appointed to participate in the Party Committee of Military Region 1.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Thai was born on May 7, 1969, joined the Party on December 7, 1987, hometown: Xuan Truc Commune, An Thi District, Hung Yen Province; political theory level: Advanced; professional level: Bachelor of Military.

Before September 2016, he was a member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Phu Tho Provincial Military Party Committee; Colonel, Commander of the Phu Tho Provincial Military Command.

On September 5, 2016, he was appointed by the Prime Minister to the position of Deputy Commander of Military Region 2 and was promoted to the rank of Major General.

In November 2016, he was Major General, Political Commissar of Phu Tho Provincial Military Command.

In July 2018, he was Major General, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 2; and Major General, Commander of the Hanoi Capital Command since November 2018.

In October 2019, he was a Major General, Commander of Military Region 1 and by July 2020, he was a Lieutenant General, Commander of Military Region 1.

In 2020, Mr. Nguyen Hong Thai was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

In January 2021, at the 13th National Congress of the Party, Mr. Nguyen Hong Thai was elected as a member of the 13th Party Central Committee for the 2021-2026 term.

In November 2024, the Prime Minister decided to appoint Mr. Nguyen Hong Thai to hold the position of Commander of Military Region 1, Ministry of National Defense.

In April 2025, in Decision No. 839/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister appointed Mr. Nguyen Hong Thai, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Commander of Military Region 1, to hold the position of Deputy Minister of National Defense.

In July 2025, Mr. Nguyen Hong Thai was promoted to the rank of Senior Lieutenant General.
