Actively increase production in white sand areas

Stationed in an area of white sand, extremely harsh weather and climate, and scarce fresh water resources, officers and soldiers of Trieu Van Border Post, Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard always proactively overcome difficulties, actively increase production and raise livestock to improve daily meals, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of soldiers, effectively implementing the emulation movement "The Military Logistics Sector follows Uncle Ho's teachings".

Trieu Van Border Guard Station is stationed in the middle of the white sand coastal area of Trieu Phong district but is covered by vast green trees, exuding the clean, beautiful, and formal appearance of a border guard station at the forefront.

But perhaps the most impressive area for visitors to the station is the unit’s farming and livestock area. This area is also covered in lush green with rows of Malabar spinach, amaranth, trellises of gourds and squash laden with fruit, and hundreds of livestock and poultry.

Commander of Trieu Van Border Guard Station - Major Nguyen Xuan Vu said: "With the motto "sufficient food, strong soldiers", in recent years, the station command has focused on leading, directing, investing human resources and funds in production and livestock raising.

With the high consensus of officers and soldiers, in addition to performing well the political tasks of managing and firmly protecting border security sovereignty, training and building regular units, when having free time, officers and soldiers join hands to take care of crops and livestock.

Vegetable, fruit, and livestock products grown by the unit are all guaranteed to be clean, safe, and provide enough for the soldiers' daily meals.

It is known that the station currently has over 2,500 square meters of vegetable garden, with concrete roads to divide each area for teams and stations, making it convenient for soldiers to move around and take care of vegetables. Next to the garden fence is a solid trellis system, where gourds and squash are being grown.

Although it is the end of the season, the squash and luffa trellises are still flowering and bearing fruit. The beds of Malabar spinach, sweet potato leaves, and water spinach are carefully tended and watered so they are still growing lushly. Thanks to that, the unit's supply of vegetables is always 100% guaranteed to serve the meals of officers and soldiers.

To achieve the above results is a process of perseverance, determination to overcome difficulties, and unity of officers and soldiers in the unit.

First, the troops mobilized thousands of working days to transport sand to other locations and carry fertile soil from other places to improve the soil, collecting tons of duckweed and leaves of all kinds to make organic fertilizer to increase the humus content of the soil. To limit pests and diseases, after each harvest, the unit dried the soil completely before fertilizing and planting.

In addition, the sea breeze carries salty vapor, making it difficult for vegetables to grow. Therefore, the soldiers had to stretch nets around the garden to limit the intrusion of sea vapor. They invested in building two wells worth tens of millions of dong to proactively source fresh water for irrigation and fertilization of the plants.

In addition to growing vegetables, the unit also takes advantage of the coastal area to buy fish to make fish sauce, both ensuring food safety and using it as feed for pigs and chickens.

Thanks to that, the unit's livestock area always maintains more than 20 pigs and a flock of nearly 200 chickens, ducks and geese.

Thanks to promoting appropriate livestock and animal husbandry development, combined with diversification of livestock and crops, in recent years, the unit's livestock and animal husbandry work has made remarkable progress.

Since the beginning of 2024, the station has harvested over 2.5 tons of vegetables and 700 kg of various types of meat. The agricultural and livestock products used in meals are 15-20% cheaper than the market price, ensuring good health for the soldiers.

It can be seen that the production and livestock raising work at Trieu Van Border Post not only creates a source of food to improve the lives of soldiers but also creates a significant source of income to help the unit invest in construction works, improve the material and spiritual life of officers and soldiers, and implement the military rear policy.

In particular, through that, it has contributed to educating , raising awareness and responsibility in effectively implementing the emulation movement "The Military Logistics Sector follows Uncle Ho's teachings", contributing to the successful implementation of assigned political tasks.
