Can Tho City: Successful intervention of large cerebral aneurysm in 90-year-old woman

On September 4, Can Tho Central General Hospital announced that it had successfully performed endovascular intervention to embolize a large cerebral aneurysm for a 90-year-old patient.

Large cerebral aneurysm discovered in 90-year-old woman

The patient is an elderly woman named LTT (90 years old, residing in Can Tho City), who was brought to the hospital by her family at 7:00 a.m. on August 16 with high blood pressure, headache, and difficulty speaking.

Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging results showed that the patient had multiple brain lesions, an aneurysm at the base of the left internal carotid artery - posterior communicating artery, measuring 9.2x12mm, with a high risk of rupture.

The team of doctors performing the surgery

After a multidisciplinary consultation, the team of doctors decided to perform endovascular intervention to block the aneurysm, helping the patient limit the risk of rupture causing stroke and cerebral hemorrhage. This is the oldest case of intervention for an unruptured cerebral aneurysm performed at Can Tho Central General Hospital.

After 45 minutes, the medical team completed the surgery, the patient was awake, vital signs were stable. The patient now has good contact, no limb weakness, and health has recovered.
