On September 20, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that as of September 10, Ho Chi Minh City had 2,742 medical examination and treatment facilities registered and granted codes to connect to the National Prescription System. Of these, 1,075 medical examination and treatment facilities have connected to send prescriptions to the system, while 1,667 medical examination and treatment facilities have been granted codes but have not yet connected to the system.
In order to strengthen and improve the management and supervision of drug prescription and prescription of chemical and biological drugs as well as electronic prescription and sale of prescription drugs in accordance with regulations, the Department of Health requests medical examination and treatment facilities and drug retail establishments in the city to strictly implement the regulations according to the Circular of the Ministry of Health regulating prescriptions and prescription of chemical and biological drugs in outpatient treatment at medical examination and treatment facilities.
Implement electronic prescriptions and sell prescription drugs according to regulations of the Ministry of Health. For public health units that have implemented electronic prescription linkage, review to ensure that prescribers have been fully declared and send complete electronic prescriptions to the National Prescription System immediately after the end of medical examination (including outpatient prescriptions and summary of inpatient drug use at the time of patient discharge). Medical examination and treatment facilities implement solutions to send prescriptions electronically to patients according to regulations.
For medical examination and treatment facilities and doctors who have not been granted codes, please urgently complete the registration for code issuance. Dispense and sell drugs according to prescription codes through the drug retail management software according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health (for insurance dispensing applications and voluntary applications).
Private medical examination and treatment facilities urgently register identification codes for qualified facilities and practitioners. Implement electronic prescriptions and connect prescriptions to the National Prescription System in accordance with regulations. Medical examination and treatment facilities implement solutions to send electronic prescriptions to patients in accordance with regulations.
Retail drug stores must connect and regularly update complete interoperable data to the National Pharmacy System, and sell drugs using electronic prescription codes in accordance with regulations. Medical examination and treatment facilities organized as hospitals must prescribe drugs electronically before October 1. Other medical examination and treatment facilities must prescribe drugs electronically before January 1, 2026.
