Controversy over students taking off their coats and sitting outside in 19 degree Celsius weather

(Dan Tri) - To serve the school performance in Da Nang , the teacher asked the students to take off their coats when it was cold. This caused controversy when some people thought that the teachers were ignoring the health of the students.

On December 16, social networks were abuzz with news that Bui Thi Xuan Primary School (Lien Chieu District, Da Nang) required students to take off their coats during a school activity, despite the cold weather.

A social media account posted images from the school's livestream, criticizing students for having to take off their outerwear while some teachers still wore coats and scarves.

KV, who claims to be a parent of a student at the school, said that both parents and teachers are responsible for some students not having shirts underneath and getting cold. He emphasized that students' clothing should be checked before participating in outdoor activities.

Song Linh also expressed concern, saying that despite prior warnings, the school needs to be flexible according to the actual weather conditions. "This morning it was cold, the average temperature was 18-19 degrees Celsius but in reality it was even colder," this person wrote.

On the morning of December 16, Bui Thi Xuan Primary School organized a district-level seminar with the theme "I love my homeland's sea and islands". The school required students in grades 2-5 to wear class uniforms, and grade 1 students to wear gym clothes.

Ms. Nguyen Tran Le Hong Trinh, the school’s principal, confirmed that students were asked to take off their coats during the performance. She said that the students had been moving around a lot and were hot, and most of them responded to the request to take off their coats.

Ms. Trinh admitted her shortcomings and pledged to be more careful in future outdoor activities.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lich, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Lien Chieu district, asked the school to report the incident and remind them to ensure the health of students.

According to Mr. Lich, the unit will have a document reminding other schools in the area to pay attention to keeping students warm when organizing outdoor activities in cold weather conditions like the present.

According to the Central Central Hydrometeorological Station, the temperature in Lien Chieu district on December 16 fluctuated from 19-21 degrees Celsius.
