It is known that the project was approved by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province on March 18, 2024, and assigned to the People's Committee of Nam Can district to be the owner of the aid. However, due to the process of restructuring the administrative apparatus and dissolving the district level, on June 3, 2025, the Chairman of the People's Committee of the province decided to change the owner of the aid to the Union of Friendship Organizations of Ca Mau province. This is a necessary adjustment step to ensure the project is implemented in accordance with regulations, effectively and sustainably.

In the first phase, from August 2024, the project has planted on an area of 10 hectares (including 3 hectares of riverside mangrove forests and 7 hectares of mangrove forests in shrimp ponds) in Trang Lon hamlet, Tam Giang commune. After more than 1 year, due to the impact of harsh natural conditions, many trees died. To overcome and ensure the goal, today's launching ceremony aims to replant 10,000 trees, contributing to the restoration of mangrove forests and protecting river banks from the risk of landslides.

The seedlings are transported to the planting site.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Huong, Country Director of Save the Children International in Vietnam, emphasized: Climate change and natural disasters are not only local challenges but are global issues, directly affecting people's lives, especially children. The "Forest for Children" project is implemented with the desire not only to restore and develop mangrove forests, but also to raise awareness among children, adolescents and communities about environmental protection, while promoting climate change-adapted livelihoods such as ecological shrimp farming models.

She affirmed that ensuring children's rights to live in a safe and sustainable environment is the foundation of all the organization's activities.

Delegates participated in tree planting right after the launching ceremony.

The “Forest for Children” project has a total aid capital of more than 11.8 billion VND (equivalent to 505,540 USD), entirely from SCI's non-refundable aid, with an implementation period lasting until December 31, 2026. The project's goal is not only to contribute to the implementation of the “Planting a Billion Trees” program launched by the Government , but also to help localities better adapt to climate change, reduce natural disaster risks, prevent landslides and protect the lives of coastal people.
