China expands imports of Vietnamese agricultural products

On April 14, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Comrade Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of China.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh warmly welcomed Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping on his State visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations; emphasizing that the visit is the most important high-level activity in Vietnam-China relations this year, contributing to maintaining the fine tradition of close high-level exchanges between the two Parties and two countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his respect and appreciation for Comrade Xi Jinping being the first leader of the Chinese Party and State to visit Vietnam four times in his capacity as General Secretary and President; believing that this visit continues to be a historic milestone, contributing to strategic orientation and providing strong momentum to promote relations between the two Parties and two countries.

The Prime Minister warmly congratulated China on achieving the first 100-year goal, continuing to lead the world's major economies in recovery speed after the COVID-19 pandemic, making the greatest contribution to global economic growth, making breakthroughs and leading the world in many key technologies; and believing that the Party, State and people of China will soon successfully achieve the second 100-year goal.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh gave an overview of the major socio-economic development situations of Vietnam, especially the persistent implementation of the "three strategic breakthroughs" and the deployment of the "strategic quartet" including breakthroughs in science and technology development, implementing the revolution in streamlining the apparatus, developing the private economic sector and building an independent and self-reliant economy associated with deep international integration.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam consistently considers developing relations with China an objective requirement, a strategic choice and a top priority; and is determined to promote the building of a Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future with increasingly close ties, commensurate with the strategic height and length of history of friendship between the two Parties and two countries.

Presenting a number of proposals on the direction and focus of cooperation in the coming time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides build a trustworthy and good political relationship to guide the overall bilateral relationship, maintain exchanges between the top leaders of the two Parties and two countries, institutionalize contacts between the two Prime Ministers; promote defense-security cooperation to truly become a pillar of the bilateral relationship; coordinate and support each other within multilateral frameworks.

The Prime Minister hopes that the two sides will improve the quality and effectiveness of substantive cooperation in all fields, giving high priority to railway cooperation, especially in credit, technology transfer and human resource training, and soon sign an ODA loan agreement to promptly start construction of the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong route in 2025 and the Dong Dang-Hanoi and Mong Cai-Ha Long-Hai Phong railways; promote balanced and sustainable trade development, creating conditions for Vietnamese agricultural products and other goods to be exported to China.

Along with that, promote cooperation in developing new productive forces, focusing on science and technology, innovation and digital transformation; soon have major projects that are symbolic of the bilateral relationship in Vietnam; create new highlights in cooperation in environmental resources, finance and currency; further deepen cooperation in culture, education, tourism and aviation; enhance exchanges and coordination in multilateral frameworks.

The Prime Minister also suggested that the two sides continue to build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development; maintain peace and stability at sea, consolidate a favorable environment for the development of each country; comply with high-level common perceptions, effectively control and properly handle disagreements in the spirit of friendship, mutual respect, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Affirming that China is a friendly neighbor, General Secretary and President Xi Jinping is very pleased to choose Vietnam as the first destination of his first foreign visit in 2025, which fully demonstrates the high regard the Chinese Party and Government attach to the China-Vietnam relationship and the deep friendship between the two peoples.

Impressed by the strong vitality of the Doi Moi process in Vietnam, Comrade Xi Jinping congratulated Vietnam on its important achievements in socio-economic development, especially its high and stable economic growth. General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping wished Vietnam a successful organization of the 14th National Congress, bringing Vietnam into an era of rich, strong, civilized and prosperous development.

General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping affirmed that the Chinese Party and Government consistently pursue a policy of friendship with Vietnam, always considering Vietnam a priority direction in its neighborly diplomacy; firmly support Vietnam in following a socialist path suitable to Vietnam's situation; and are ready to work with Vietnam to focus on building a Community of Shared Future between the two countries around a more positive direction, contributing to the cause of human progress.

General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping expressed his delight at the good results achieved during the in-depth talks with General Secretary To Lam. The two sides also signed more than 40 cooperation documents with very substantive and comprehensive content, creating many achievements for the visit.

Comrade Xi Jinping highly appreciated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's important contributions to promoting cooperation in various fields between the two countries.

General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping welcomed and highly appreciated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's opinions on measures to strengthen relations between the two Parties and two countries, hoping that both sides would make good use of exchange mechanisms, especially the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation; cooperate on Party, Government, National Assembly channels, and between key ministries and branches such as foreign affairs - defense - public security; grasp opportunities for development in the field of science and technology, take advantage of the close geographical distance between the two countries to exploit the potential for economic cooperation and develop industries; actively promote the railway cooperation mechanism between the two countries.

Comrade Xi Jinping affirmed that China is willing to expand the import of Vietnamese agricultural products, support Chinese enterprises to increase high-quality investment in Vietnam; propose that both sides well organize activities within the framework of the Vietnam-China Year of Humanitarian Exchange; deploy Red Journey tourism routes, strengthen cooperation in the fields of education and health to bring practical benefits to the people of the two countries; propose that ministries and branches of both sides proactively and actively implement cooperation projects; properly control disagreements according to the common perception of high-ranking leaders, promote cooperation at sea, and jointly maintain peace and stability in the region and the world./.
