ADD NEW SUBJECTS FOR CANDIDATES TO CHOOSE
Many universities continue to organize their own exams for admission in 2025. Designed for the first batch of students of the new General Education Program, these exams have been adjusted to become more suitable.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said that the University is preparing to announce the earliest official information about the exam and sample questions for capacity assessment from 2025. Accordingly, the sample questions will be announced in the spirit of guiding the new points that have been announced before. Specifically, it will be implemented in the form of objective multiple-choice tests on paper, organized simultaneously in many localities to create favorable conditions for candidates to participate.
In addition, the exam will have adjustments to the exam structure to suit the changes of the new program. Specifically, the structure of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam from 2025 will still include 3 parts: Language use; Mathematics, logic and data analysis; Problem solving. In parts 1 and 2, candidates are required to answer all questions. The adjustment of the exam structure is in part 3 when candidates are allowed to randomly choose 3 out of 6 groups of knowledge fields including: physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, economic education and law.
Thus, compared to the structure of the competency assessment test from 2024 and earlier, the structure of the test from 2025 will have 2 new points. First is the appearance of a new group of fields appearing in the 2018 General Education Program related to economic and legal education . Second, candidates can choose the exam subjects instead of being required to answer all questions in part 3 like the old test. This adjustment will lead to changes in the way universities are selected based on the results of this exam next year.
Meanwhile, Hanoi National University has announced the reference exam for the 2025 capacity assessment exam. According to the information announced by Hanoi National University Examination Center, the reference exam is designed to serve students studying the new General Education Program from 2025, including 2 compulsory exam sections and 1 optional section. Accordingly, the 2 compulsory exam sections include: 50 math and data processing questions, 50 literature and language questions.
Like the Ho Chi Minh City National University's aptitude test, the third part of the Hanoi National University's aptitude test allows candidates to choose between science or English. Candidates choose 3 out of 5 topics: physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography; each topic has 17 questions (including 1 test question) to complete the science part. The English option includes 50 objective multiple choice questions designed to serve the admission of foreign language training programs.
According to the Hanoi National University Examination Center, the questions in the exam have about 75% of 4-choice objective tests. The new point in the structure of the 2025 competency assessment exam is to add cluster questions in all sections and topics. Cluster questions include general questions and specific questions to develop competency assessment from low to high levels in each field and across fields.
A special difference in the exam structure of Hanoi National University from 2025 is that in addition to the science test, there will be an English test for candidates registering for language-related majors to choose from. Most universities that use the results of the competency assessment test can accept applications based on the total score of the test. However, some schools may have additional requirements on the topics selected in the science test. The English test is designed to assess foreign language proficiency for admission to foreign language training majors.
From 2025, the specialized competency assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education will become an independent admission method instead of combining exam scores with high school academic results as it is now.
T BECOME AN INDEPENDENT RECRUITMENT OPTION
Pedagogical universities are also ready to organize their own exams for admission from 2025. In particular, the specialized competency assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, although maintaining the form of the exam on the computer, has important changes in the question format. Master Nguyen Ngoc Trung, Vice Principal of the school, said that the results of this exam will become an independent admission method from 2025 onwards (instead of combining the exam score with high school study results in the same method as before). In 2025, the exam will continue to be conducted with the subjects of math, physics, chemistry, biology, literature and English. In 2026, the school will add the subjects of history, geography, economic education and law.
The content of the competency assessment will closely follow the 2018 General Education Program. Of which, the knowledge content of the 12th grade program accounts for about 70 - 80%, the rest is knowledge content of the 10th and 11th grade programs. In that spirit, according to Master Trung, the specialized competency assessment exam according to the new structure from 2025 has many new points. Specifically, 2 new question formats are added: multiple-choice objective questions with more than 1 correct answer and the common data mining question format.
According to the sample exam paper published by Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, the subjects of math, physics, chemistry, and biology include 40 questions divided into 3 parts. Part 1 includes 25 objective multiple choice questions divided into 2 different formats: objective multiple choice with 1 correct answer and objective multiple choice with more than 1 correct answer. Part 2 has 5 objective multiple choice questions using shared data and part 3 includes 10 fill-in-the-blank questions.
Literature will consist of 22 questions and be divided into 3 parts: multiple choice objective test questions, writing a short paragraph with 1 essay question, writing an essay with 1 essay question.
For English, the test structure remains the same, following the approach of the test format to assess competence from level 3 to level 5 according to the 6-level Foreign Language Competency Framework for Vietnam. The test materials are diverse, taken from many different fields. The assessment questions in each subject have different levels of difficulty in each section.
"These specific forms contribute to measuring specialized and general competencies according to the 2018 General Education Program," Master Trung emphasized.
Meanwhile, a representative of Vietnam-Germany University said that the TestAS exam held at the school in 2025 is expected to have no significant changes compared to previous years. In fact, TestAS is a test that assesses thinking ability, not simply fixed knowledge. Therefore, TestAS has an open approach and can be compatible with a wide range of general education programs in the world. Vietnam's 2018 general education program is even closer to TestAS than the old program. "Therefore, using the results of this exam to select new students to enter the school will not encounter any obstacles," the school representative affirmed.
More universities announce to organize their own exams
Hanoi National University of Education 2 has also announced the regular university admission methods in 2025. Among the 6 admission methods, in 2025, for the first time, this university will organize its own entrance exam and use the results of its own exam for university admission.
Previously, many schools organized their own entrance exams for admission such as: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Education, schools organized computer-based university entrance assessment exams (V-SAT)...
