Why dissolve the Steering Committee for University Education Innovation?

The Steering Committee for University Education Innovation was established on February 6, 2006 and has now officially dissolved after completing the tasks assigned by the Prime Minister.


On January 10, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long signed Decision 71 to dissolve the Steering Committee for University Education Innovation established under Decision No. 170 dated February 6, 2006 of the Prime Minister.

Implementing university education innovation by 2020

It is known that in 2006, the Steering Committee for University Education Innovation was established by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai to implement Resolution No. 14/2005/NQ-CP of the Government on fundamental and comprehensive innovation of Vietnam's university education in the period 2006 - 2020.

This Resolution sets out the general goal of fundamentally and comprehensively innovating university education, creating fundamental changes in quality, efficiency and scale, meeting the requirements of the country's industrialization and modernization, international economic integration and people's learning needs.

Vietnam's university education has achieved many successes after the innovation project for the 2006-2020 period.

By 2020, Vietnam's university education will reach the advanced level in the region and approach the advanced level in the world; have high competitiveness, adapt to the socialist-oriented market mechanism.

Specific goals include completing the network of higher education institutions nationwide; developing university education programs oriented towards research and career-application orientation; expanding the scale of training, reaching a ratio of 450 students per 10,000 people by 2020; building a team of lecturers and managers with sufficient numbers and high professional qualifications; significantly improving the scale and efficiency of scientific and technological activities in higher education institutions; perfecting the policy of developing higher education in the direction of ensuring autonomy and social responsibility of higher education institutions.

Completed a period of innovation

Accordingly, the Steering Committee for University Education Innovation has 11 members. Among them, Mr. Pham Gia Khiem, Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Committee; Mr. Nguyen Minh Hien, Minister of Education and Training, Deputy Head of the Committee; Mr. Tran Quoc Toan, Deputy Head of the Government Office, Deputy Head of the Committee.

The members include Mr. Bang Tien Long, Deputy Minister of Education and Training; Mr. Phan Quang Trung, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment; Ms. Huynh Thi Nhan, Deputy Minister of Finance; Mr. Dang Quoc Tien, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs; Mr. Tran Quoc Thang, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Dang Hung Vo, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment; Mr. Tran Xuan Gia, Head of the Prime Minister's Research Committee and Mr. Pham Phu, professor of the University (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

The Ministry of Education and Training is the standing body of the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is responsible for assisting the Prime Minister in performing the tasks of directing the development of detailed projects to implement the goals, tasks and solutions for university education innovation; directing the implementation, guiding, urging, inspecting and evaluating the implementation of detailed projects for university education innovation.

In addition, research and propose to the Government important policies and solutions to promote innovation in university education in each period.

After being established, the Steering Committee developed the Project on Innovation of Vietnamese University Education for the period 2006-2020 with specific goals, tasks and solutions.

Up to now, Vietnam's university education has achieved many achievements as set out, such as all schools have converted to credit-based training; the number of lecturers with master's and doctoral degrees has increased; the quality assessment system has been completed and a quality assurance mechanism has been established; many universities are autonomous; many training programs have been internationally accredited and recognized abroad; strong international integration; innovation in teaching and learning methods towards applying information technology; attracting good lecturers and experts from within and outside the country to work at universities...

It can be seen that the Project on Innovation of Vietnamese University Education in the period 2006-2020 has ended for 5 years, thus Vietnamese university education has completed a period of innovation and needs new orientations and directions to continue developing.
