Ha Long Bay and other beautiful Southeast Asian scenes in Hollywood blockbusters

The culture and context of Southeast Asia in particular and Asia in general are increasingly attracting Hollywood filmmakers to exploit. In particular, the crew of "The Creator" chose Ha Long Bay in Vietnam to film a scene in the movie.

The production team of "The Creator" traveled more than 16,000 km to 80 different locations, including Asian countries such as: Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Japan, Indonesia. The filmmakers tried to visually imagine what those places would be like in 30 or 40 years and recreate that on screen.

During production, the film crew spent a lot of time in Thailand, filming in 17 provinces with more than 40 different locations: the beaches of Krabi, the bustling streets of Bangkok, the jungles of Chiang Mai…

The crew sourced authentic Asian locations for each scene and created futuristic structures. They said they chose Nepal for its beautiful mountains and temples, and Kathmandu for its spirituality. They also traveled to Vietnam to film the rice paddies, rice terraces and limestone cliffs of Ha Long Bay.

Previously, the film's director Gareth Edwards had the opportunity to visit Vietnam to visit Ha Long Bay. He has a lot of affection for this majestic beauty of the S-shaped land. After the success of "Crazy rich Asians" (2018), "Raya and the last Dragon" (2021), "Turning red" (2022) or "Everything everywhere all at once", "The creator" (Vietnamese title: The creator) is the next film to exploit cultural elements and context in Asia.
