The meaning of "talking" street signs

At the end of August 2025, Buon Ma Thuot Construction Investment Project Management Board (under the Dak Lak Province Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Project Management Board) completed the installation of hundreds of street nameplates and street nameplates with integrated QR code scanning on a number of main routes such as: Le Duan route (from the center of the six-way intersection to the intersection of Vo Nguyen Giap street); Tran Hung Dao route (from Phan Chu Trinh street to Nguyen Tat Thanh street); Nguyen Tat Thanh route (from the center of the six-way intersection to the Km3 roundabout).

The new street name signs are designed with dimensions of 750 x 400 x 20mm, using aluminum alloy material with decal background and engraved reflective letters on both sides. The content shown on the street name signs includes: street name, construction boundary information, QR sign with blue reflective decal. On the left corner of each new street name sign is attached the logo of Buon Ma Thuot City with the theme "Buon Ma Thuot - Destination of the world's coffee". The pillar of the street name sign is cast from ebony-colored aluminum, with the logo of Buon Ma Thuot City painted in bronze color in the middle, creating a beauty that is both classic and modern.

According to the Buon Ma Thuot Construction Investment Project Management Board, the project to install street nameplates in Buon Ma Thuot City (old) has a scale of installing 36 sets of street nameplates with QR codes (including 34 double pillars and 2 single pillars). In addition, the project also installs more than 200 common street nameplates according to Resolution No. 06/2024/NQ-HDND dated June 20, 2024 of the People's Council of Dak Lak Province (old) term X to create a new civilized and modern look for Buon Ma Thuot city. The project has a total investment of over 3.2 billion VND; implemented from April 2025 and completed in August 2025.

People look up information via QR code on street name board at the intersection of Le Duan - Y Ngong streets.

According to the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot Ward, the highlight of the Project to install street nameplates in Buon Ma Thuot City (old) is the information integrated in the QR code on each street nameplate.

Specifically, people can use their smartphones to scan QR codes, look up information related to characters and historical events associated with street names. In addition, this QR code also has directions, opens maps or shares related addresses... Characters whose QR codes are scanned on street name boards include leaders, celebrities, national heroes such as Nguyen Tat Thanh, Le Duan, Tran Hung Dao, Vo Nguyen Giap, Nguyen Du, Chu Van An or Ede intellectuals and leaders such as Ama Jhao, Ama Khe, Y Bih Aleô, Y Ngong...

As soon as completed, the new street signs received much attention from the people, especially young people and tourists. Mr. Nguyen Nam Khanh, from Tuy Hoa ward, was very interested in learning about history by scanning QR codes on street signs in Buon Ma Thuot ward. Mr. Khanh expressed: “This is the first time I have come to the coffee capital of Buon Ma Thuot. I am always curious and excited to have the opportunity to learn about the history of formation as well as the heroes and leaders of the Central Highlands. Walking through each street, I feel like I am turning the pages of an interesting and useful history book.”

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu, Chairman of Buon Ma Thuot Ward People's Committee, said: The project of installing street nameplates in Buon Ma Thuot City (old) aims to create a new look, in line with urban beautification towards green, clean, beautiful, civilized and promoting digital transformation. The project not only meets the needs of traveling and looking up information, but also contributes to building the unique cultural identity of Buon Ma Thuot - Destination of world coffee.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu added that, in addition to information about historical figures and events, the new street name signs also provide information about the planning of the route, such as: construction boundaries, roadways, median strips, sidewalks, etc. This information helps people grasp the planning and consciously comply with regulations when constructing works and houses. This is also a solution to help local authorities manage urban order and construction order more effectively and conveniently.
