The State Council of Professors has just announced the list of candidates proposed by the Council of Professors to be considered for recognition as meeting the standards for the title of professor (GS) and associate professor (PGS) in 2025. Notably, the number of candidates proposed for recognition as professors and associate professors this year has increased sharply compared to 2023 and 2024.
According to the public list of the State Council of Professors, in 2025, there will be 933 candidates proposed by the basic Councils of Professors to be considered for recognition of meeting the standards for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor. Of these, there are 89 candidates for Professor and 844 candidates for Associate Professor. This list does not include candidates from the two Councils of Professors of Security Science and Military Science.

Of the total number of candidates, 48 are from Ha Tinh, an increase of 11 compared to 2024. Of these, 9 candidates were proposed to be considered for recognition of meeting the standards for the title of professor, including: Ngo Dang Quang (born in 1964, working at the University of Transport); Tran The Truyen (born in 1978, working at the University of Transport); Le Khanh Tuan (born in 1957, working at Saigon University); Nghiem Trung Dung (born in 1963, working at Hanoi University of Science and Technology); Le Dinh Tinh (born in 1976, working at the Department of Foreign Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs ); Dinh Tuan Hai (born in 1973, working at Hanoi University of Architecture); Nguyen Xuan Huy (born in 1977, working at the University of Transport); Nguyen Tien Dung (born in 1975, working at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Thai Nguyen University); Kieu Dinh Hung (born in 1963; working at Hanoi Medical University).
The remaining 39 candidates from Ha Tinh were proposed to be considered for recognition of meeting the standards for the title of associate professor.
In terms of age, the two youngest candidates, both born in 1990 (35 years old), are Tran Quoc Quan (born May 15, 1990, Associate Professor candidate, currently working at the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and Nguyen Viet Huong (born April 23, 1990, from Can Loc commune, Ha Tinh province, Associate Professor candidate, currently working at Phenikaa University).

According to the process, universities establish a basic council to select qualified candidates, then propose to the State Council of Professors.
These files are then submitted to the industry and interdisciplinary councils for appraisal, eliminating those who do not meet the standards. Finally, the State Council of Professors reviews and approves the list of qualified candidates, which is announced in November and December every year.
To be considered, candidates need to be the main author of 3-5 articles in journals listed in ISI, Scopus (a prestigious data system, summarizing and citing scientific articles) or in categories prescribed by the State Council of Professors.
As planned, from October 20 to October 31, the State Council of Professors will meet to review and recognize the qualifications for the title of Professor and Associate Professor in 2025.
