The comprehensive farm of Mr. Le Van Tan's family, Trung Tam village, Hop Thinh commune, regularly raises 30 sows, 200 - 300 pigs and 1,000 - 2,000 commercial ducks. To prevent the outbreak and spread of diseases, in addition to fully vaccinating the livestock and taking samples for disease testing every month, his family also regularly sprinkles lime powder and sprays chemicals to disinfect the barns and the environment around the farm once a week.

During the month of environmental sanitation and disinfection implemented by the Department of Agriculture and Environment from August 20 to September 20, his family increased the frequency of chemical spraying to once every two days. Thanks to strict adherence to biosafety farming procedures, vaccination, and adequate sanitation, disinfection, and disinfection, his family's livestock farm has been kept safe for many years, with no outbreaks of disease.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hao, Vice Chairman of Hop Thinh Commune People's Committee, the total livestock herd of the commune currently has 11,000 buffaloes and cows; nearly 50,000 pigs and nearly 400,000 poultry and waterfowl of all kinds. Under the direction of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, from August 20 to September 20, the commune launched a campaign to disinfect and sterilize the environment to protect the safety of livestock. Every Sunday, the commune organizes the sprinkling of lime powder, sweeping of village roads and alleys, spraying chemicals, clearing sewers, and directing livestock households to allocate funds to buy lime powder and chemicals to disinfect and sterilize to protect livestock. After 1 month of implementation, the whole commune mobilized more than 9,000 people to participate, spraying 1,050 liters of chemicals, sprinkling 40 tons of lime powder at the market, old epidemic areas, public areas, and livestock farms.
Cau Kim Market, Vu Ninh Ward, regularly has 40-50 households trading and slaughtering poultry and waterfowl, so there is a high risk of disease outbreaks and spread from livestock to humans. In order to proactively and effectively control dangerous diseases in livestock and poultry, diseases transmitted between animals and humans that arise and spread, the Ward People's Committee requests the Market Management Board to coordinate with specialized agencies to guide households trading and slaughtering poultry to spray chemicals, sprinkle lime powder, collect and clean tools used for daily trading and slaughtering.
All vehicles transporting poultry in and out of the market are also sprayed with chemicals to prevent the spread of disease. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, a poultry slaughterer at the market, said: "According to recommendations, after each slaughter, my family collects all by-products, cleans the work area, and sprinkles lime powder around to limit the spread of disease from livestock to humans."
Shield to protect livestock
In recent times, despite drastic measures to prevent and control animal diseases, the disease situation in livestock and poultry is still complicated, in which African swine fever has appeared and spread in many localities in the province. On the other hand, the weather is in the transitional period, so some dangerous diseases such as avian influenza, blue ear disease, swine fever, etc. have the potential to arise and spread widely.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Tho, Head of the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry - Veterinary and Fisheries, in order to proactively and effectively prevent dangerous epidemics in livestock and poultry, from August 20 to September 20, localities across the province simultaneously implemented a month of environmental sanitation, disinfection and sterilization. Accordingly, localities mobilized organizations, people, and livestock households to clean, disinfect and sterilize, focusing on residential areas, places with old epidemic outbreaks, livestock farms, and places of poultry and poultry product trading; widely propagated and disseminated to the people about the purpose and significance of environmental sanitation, disinfection and sterilization in disease prevention and control in livestock. In addition to supporting and promptly supplying chemicals, lime powder, etc. according to the province's regulations, the Department regularly inspected and urged the implementation of localities; Increase large-sized engine pumps to spray chemicals in old epidemic areas, markets, slaughterhouses, and concentrated animal product trading areas.
Environmental sanitation and disinfection is one of the effective measures to prevent and control epidemics and diseases, and protect livestock and poultry. Thanks to the active direction of specialized agencies, 100% of communes and wards in the province have organized teams to spray disinfectants for public areas, village roads, alleys, neighborhoods, and family livestock areas. Main trading markets and concentrated slaughterhouses are regularly cleaned and sprayed with pesticides. Concentrated livestock facilities clear weeds around barns; spray disinfectants in the entire barn area, livestock areas, and surrounding areas. The synchronous and active implementation of environmental sanitation and disinfection is to create a safe environment, contributing to promoting sustainable livestock development.
