"Doctor Google" causes many people trouble

(Dan Tri) - According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Nhung, many people still have the habit of looking up on Google... ways to cure diseases, then following them, leading to serious illness progression.

On the afternoon of July 9, at the launching ceremony of the program "VTV Live Healthy", Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Nhung, Vice President of the Vietnam Medical Association, Deputy Head of the Pulmonary Department (University of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hanoi National University) said that in reality, in medical examination and treatment, he encountered many cases of complications and serious developments due to patients treating according to "Doctor Google".

"Patients who follow or listen to unverified information can harm their health. Therefore, official information from experts on official channels will bring valuable information to people," Associate Professor Nhung said.

Sharing this view, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Giap, Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said that even with hepatitis B - a very common disease - many people are treated to control low virus levels, but are frustrated because they have to take medication for life.

"Many patients, upon hearing advertisements for herbal medicine to cure hepatitis B, immediately stopped taking the medicine prescribed by their doctor and took herbal medicine, then ended up in the hospital due to severe liver coma, cirrhosis, and ascites, which the doctors had no way to treat.

These are very painful lessons, showing that guiding information so that people have the habit of checking official and accurate sources when they have related information is very important," Associate Professor Giap said.

Mr. Do Duc Hoang, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Television, said, "VTV Live Healthy" is a specialized television program on medicine and community health, broadcast from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. daily on VTV1 channel.

The program is produced by the Department of Science and Education, with the support of the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health considers this a creative, modern and strategic initiative, in line with the direction of innovation in medical communication work.

It is known that each "VTV Live Healthy" program provides in-depth and comprehensive information on health topics of interest to the community such as disease prevention, non-communicable diseases, cancer prevention and treatment, nutrition...

In addition to domestic and international medical information, "VTV Live Healthy" also provides in-depth content on a health issue; "Doctor" with advice from the studio of experts and leading doctors; or "Medical Arms" connecting patients in difficult circumstances to kind hearts...

The program also deploys a series of clips instructing basic medical skills, first aid skills, and accident prevention in daily life, to equip people with basic knowledge.
