Selling luxury goods online with 'huge' revenue of 834 billion VND, detained for tax evasion of 12.5 billion VND

Nguyen Thi Thu Huong sold branded goods online with a revenue of more than 834 billion VND but evaded 12.5 billion VND in taxes, so she was detained by the police for investigation.

On July 10, Hanoi City Police announced that the Criminal Police Department had detained Nguyen Thi Thu Huong (38 years old, residing in Lang ward, Hanoi) to investigate tax evasion.

Previously, through the work of grasping the situation related to e-commerce business activities, service and goods provision business on social networks, the Economic Police Department discovered that Ms. Huong had signs of tax evasion.

Police determined that from 2020 to present, Huong sold many goods such as accessories, handbags, watches, diamonds... of many famous world brands (Versace, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Hermes...) on the Facebook fanpage "Hyclothet - New things by hy", the private closed sales group "Hycloset - Hang Hieu Authentic" and the Zalo chat group "Vip Hycloset".

Initially, the authorities determined that the suspect Huong's business activities generated exceptionally large revenue, up to more than 834 billion VND. However, Huong did not declare and pay taxes according to regulations, evading more than 12.5 billion VND in taxes.

The investigation agency summoned Nguyen Thi Thu Huong and six employees who closed orders, packed goods, checked messages, and advertised.

At the police station, the suspects confessed to their crimes.

On July 9, the Hanoi Police Department conducted an emergency search of Nguyen Thi Thu Huong's residence, the livestream sales location, and the warehouse, seizing many handbags, watches, diamonds, and accessories of famous fashion brands with an estimated total value of nearly 10 billion VND. Most of them had no invoices, documents, or origin.

Currently, the Police Investigation Agency is continuing to expand the investigation and handle the subjects according to regulations.
