What does the Ministry of Education and Training say about the 30/30 university admission benchmark?

TPO - Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son affirmed that the first round of university entrance exam scores this year did not increase abnormally but were very differentiated.

Speaking to reporters, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son said that statistics show that the benchmark score among all methods, majors, and schools in the first round of admission this year (converted to a scale of 30) is 19.11/30 points, while in 2024 this number is 22.05/30 points. The main reason is that the score distribution of 3 subjects in the high school graduation exam, namely Math, English, and Biology, has decreased.

But the number of 10s has increased. This year's high school graduation exam has more than 15,000 10s, 1.5 times higher than in 2024 (last year there were more than 10,000). In the A00 group (Math, Physics, Chemistry), this year there are more than 5,000 10s, last year there were 1,300. In Math alone this year there are more than 500 10s, while in 2024 there were none. Thus, the exam is highly differentiated.

Differentiation has caused some attractive majors such as artificial intelligence, computer science , and pedagogy to have their benchmark scores skyrocket. This year, there are 11 majors with benchmark scores of 29/30 points or more (in 2024, there will be 8 majors).

However, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son acknowledged that some schools' bonus points and conversion of international language certificates are not really reasonable. Although this year the Ministry of Education and Training has added a regulation limiting the bonus points to no more than 10% of the total score, and not exceeding the maximum score, but to have a standard score of 30/30 (civil universities) must be reconsidered.

According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training, as of 5:27 p.m. on August 25, 501,647 candidates have confirmed their enrollment on the ministry's system.
