Traditionally, the State of the Union address gives US presidents a “big stage”, watched by tens of millions of Americans, the opportunity to highlight the state of the country and priorities for the future.

This year, Joe Biden delivered the State of the Union address as President, but behind the political rhetoric, it was actually a campaign speech.

Although he did not mention his name, Mr. Biden mentioned his “predecessor” 13 times with harsh criticism, both on domestic and foreign issues. Throughout the 68-minute presentation, there were praises for his achievements over the past three years and warnings of “bad things” if his “predecessor” returned to power. The 81-year-old leader did not hesitate to erase voters’ concerns about his age by turning this “burden” into an advantage in political experience, affirming that whether old or young, he always knows what lasts forever, which is the values of America.

With little time left on the campaign trail and Donald Trump firmly holding the Republican Party's ticket, it is clear that the current President is taking advantage of delivering the State of the Union address to serve his campaign goals.

He tried to show what his supporters thought he lacked, “showing off” to voters the image of a president full of passion, many emotions and ready to argue about policy views.

With a strong State of the Union address, the current President hopes to sway voters who are "hesitant" about whether to vote for him or not on Election Day, November 5.

More than 32 million people watched his fourth performance on the “big stage,” an increase of about 18% compared to last year’s speech. Within 24 hours of the speech, his re-election fund had raised $10 million. It seems that Joe Biden has had an impressive run for the rematch between the two “old acquaintances.”
