The 1st City Party Congress, term 2025-2030, will take place from September 26-28, with the participation of 485 delegates, representing more than 141,000 party members from 109 party committees. In that context, a series of key economic - social infrastructure projects such as Lo Te - Rach Soi road, Vam Xang bridge, Tran Hoang Na bridge, Western belt road, Can Tho international airport upgrade project, Cai Cui port expansion, development of intra-regional logistics system... have been completed and put into use, creating development momentum, contributing to consolidating and strengthening the position of the regional center of Can Tho City.

Along with economic development, social security work is regularly focused on by Party committees and authorities at all levels. During the 2020-2025 term, the average poverty rate decreased by 0.4-0.5%/year; to date, the city has basically eliminated temporary and dilapidated houses; the social insurance coverage rate reached over 95% of the population, among the top in the country.

The work of inspection, supervision, and prevention of corruption and negativity is also focused on, contributing to consolidating and enhancing the trust of people and businesses in the Party and the State. In the field of administrative reform, Can Tho City is in the group of localities with continuously increasing administrative reform index and satisfaction level of people and businesses. The model of e-government, online public services, and digital government is strongly deployed, contributing to creating a transparent and favorable investment environment.

After merging with Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces, Can Tho City has a larger scale, playing a particularly important role in the development strategy of the Mekong Delta and the whole country. In the new development phase, the goal is to strive by 2030 for Can Tho City to become a national growth pole, playing the role of a driving force for development, spreading and leading the whole region. It is the center of the region for trade, tourism, logistics, marine economy, processing industry, concentrated digital technology, high-tech agriculture, education and training, specialized healthcare, startup center, science and technology and innovation, cultural and sports development. It is a core urban area of ​​the region; building Can Tho people with rich identity, revolutionary ideals, ethics, intelligence, and a prosperous and happy life. By 2045, to be an ecological, civilized, modern city, striving to be among the group of fairly developed cities in Asia, becoming a livable city in Vietnam.

In the new term, the City Party Committee will focus on leading economic development in a sustainable direction, balancing all three areas of economy, culture - society and environment, while taking people as the center and driving force for development associated with improving the quality of human resources. The target of Can Tho's GRDP growth in the period of 2025 - 2030 is from 10%/year or more; GRDP per capita by 2030 will reach about 215 million VND; total annual budget revenue will increase by about 15%; urbanization rate will reach 50 - 55% and complete the construction of smart urban areas.

To achieve the set goals, Can Tho City has identified three breakthroughs: breakthroughs in developing high-quality human resources, science, technology, innovation and international cooperation; investing in synchronous development of socio-economic infrastructure, especially transportation, digital infrastructure and logistics; renewing thinking, perfecting policy mechanisms, improving the investment environment, and strongly developing the private economy. This is an important basis for mobilizing combined strength, exploiting potentials and advantages, and realizing the goal of building Can Tho into a driving force and a growth pole of the country.
