On the evening of July 8, Lam Son Theater (Hac Thanh Ward, Thanh Hoa Province) was filled with ethnic sounds on the opening night of the Mass Art Performance "Songs Connecting Rivers" in the North Central region in 2025.
The event was organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa in coordination with the Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Library (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), attracting nearly 200 artists, artisans and amateur actors from 4 provinces and cities in the North Central region from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue.
Amidst an artistic space imbued with traditional identity, the elaborately staged, artistic performances took the audience on a journey to discover the vibrant heritage of the land by the rivers.
It is the resounding sound of the Ma River Ho, the simplicity, simplicity and depth of Nghe An folk songs; the elegance and sophistication of Hue folk songs… All blend together in a colorful folk symphony, both rustic and artistic, imbued with love for the land and people.
Each song, each melody is a unique cultural slice, carrying folk melodies not only for performance but also to tell stories about homeland, people, love, sacrifice, pride and the extension of cultural undercurrents between generations.
The special thing about the festival is the mass character, where art is not confined to the professional performance model but is imbued with the breath of life, from the artisans to the passionate semi-professional actors. Each performance carries the emotions of the performer, the soul of the land they represent.
That is what creates a unique identity for "The Songs Connecting the Rivers", making the festival not simply a place to showcase art but truly a meeting space, blending regional cultural colors.
The festival not only honors traditional values, but also opens up opportunities for non-professional artists to interact, learn, exchange experiences, and inspire creativity at the grassroots level.
It is where folk art steps out of the festival area to become a daily cultural activity, spreading love for heritage and cultural identity in contemporary life.
From the Ma River to the Lam River, the Gianh River, and then the Huong River, the folk songs are like an invisible bridge connecting generations, connecting the homelands of the Central region in a nameless memory, a space imbued with Vietnamese character, meaningful and profound.
“The song connecting the rivers” not only revives cultural memories but also affirms the enduring vitality of traditional art in the hearts of today's public.
The festival will continue until July 10, promising to bring many surprises and emotions to the audience who still believe that folk art is not old, it just needs a sincere enough space to resonate the melodies of the homeland.
