Community join hands
For many years, Mr. Ho Xuan Ut's family (residing in Hamlet 1, Tra Giap Commune, Da Nang City) has lived in a cramped, severely dilapidated house. Due to his family's economic difficulties, Mr. Ut could not afford to build a solid house. "Thanks to the humane policies of the Party and the State, my family received 60 million VND in support to build a new house," said Mr. Ut.
According to Mr. Ut, in addition to the support for the temporary house demolition, the household also received labor assistance from neighbors. In particular, members of the commune and village associations and organizations, the police force, and the militia have also actively supported in the process of dismantling the old house and building a new one. Up to now, the completed house not only meets the "3 hard" criteria (foundation, frame, roof), but is also a warm home of the spirit of community solidarity and support.
At residential group No. 1 (Kham Duc commune, Da Nang city), Mr. Ho Van De's family now lives in a solid house with an area of about 50 square meters. Mr. De said that the spacious house above was built in 2024 with State support of 60 million VND, and a loan of 40 million VND from the social policy bank. In addition, relatives and the community enthusiastically contributed working days.
Before the merger, the old Za Hung commune (now Dong Giang commune, Da Nang city) effectively promoted the spirit of great national solidarity in the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.
In this difficult mountainous area, many households whose temporary and dilapidated houses are subject to demolition are poor, lonely, or disabled. Apart from the State's support, they have no other source of funding to build new houses, and the prices of construction materials are rising...
Therefore, in early 2025, the locality mobilized philanthropists to support cement to help people reduce investment costs. Demonstrating the determination to "leave no one behind", associations mobilized members, youth union members, militia and police to help people dismantle houses, clear the site, mix mortar... to contribute to completing the dream house.
Many outstanding results
Before 2023, in the old Quang Nam area, especially in the mountainous areas, thousands of households had to live in dilapidated houses. Unstable income, combined with frequent impacts of natural disasters and epidemics, made people's lives difficult, unable to afford to rebuild new houses according to the "3 hard" criteria.
The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses was born and is considered a "humanitarian program". After 3 years of implementation (2023 - 2025), the program has contributed to fundamentally changing the appearance of housing in mountainous and rural areas of Quang Nam. Thousands of households have escaped from temporary living conditions and have a stable home to settle down.
Contributing to the above humanitarian program is indispensable for the support of all classes of people, socio-political organizations, units, businesses, and individuals. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang City (new) said that the program to support the construction and repair of new houses for poor households, near-poor households, and households in especially difficult circumstances has achieved many outstanding results.
In the 2021 - 2024 period, the Fund for the Poor mobilized more than 385 billion VND; supported the construction and repair of more than 6,200 solidarity houses; tens of thousands of poor households received support for livelihoods, means of production, preferential loans, creating conditions to escape poverty.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang City, said that in response to the emulation movement of the whole country joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses launched by the Prime Minister, the unit issued an appeal and received strong response from all the people, cadres, civil servants, public employees, armed forces, employees of agencies, units, businesses, religious organizations in the area and overseas Vietnamese with affection, sharing and volunteering.
Currently, the Fund for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses at all levels has mobilized more than 145 billion VND, supporting the construction and repair of 3,564 houses.
At the grassroots level, the Fatherland Front has coordinated with associations and unions to mobilize more than 6,181 working days and 358,000 bricks... to support people in building and repairing houses.
The Danang City Fatherland Front Committee also surveyed and supported 160 households with 252 essential items. It can be affirmed that the strength of great solidarity has been strongly promoted, contributing to stabilizing the lives of disadvantaged households, ensuring social security, and sustainable poverty reduction.
