Timely rescue of 5 fishermen trapped in flood on Lam River

On the afternoon of August 25, immediately after receiving urgent information about 5 fishermen trapped in the middle of Lam River due to rising flood waters, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Lam Thanh Commune and the Commune Military Command quickly arrived at the scene to deploy a rescue plan.

Faced with the critical situation, comrade Nguyen Huu Ha - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee was directly present at the scene, directed the entire rescue work and decided to requisition a large barge in the area to bring forces to the isolated area.

Thanks to the drastic, close and timely direction, the authorities successfully rescued 2 households including: 1 household in Nghi Xuan commune ( Ha Tinh ) with 2 people, and 1 household in Phu Hung hamlet, Lam Thanh commune with 3 people. All 5 people were brought to shore safely.

At the scene, the Chairman of the Commune People's Committee directly visited, encouraged and supported each household with 500,000 VND to promptly buy food and temporarily stabilize their lives.

At the time of the incident, the area was strongly affected by post-storm circulation with prolonged heavy rain, strong gusts of wind, and abnormally high water levels on the Lam River, posing a high risk of accidents.

Previously, the commune's loudspeaker system and information pages had continuously warned people not to go to rivers and lakes to fish. However, due to subjectivity and not being fully aware of the level of danger, some people still deliberately went to the river to fish, leading to the above incident.

The Chairman of the Commune People's Committee emphasized: "We must not be negligent with extreme weather. Forces need to continue to closely monitor the area, increase warnings via loudspeakers and social networks, and be ready to deploy evacuation plans when bad situations occur."

Lam Thanh Commune People's Committee recommends that all people raise their vigilance, strictly follow recommendations on natural disaster prevention, and absolutely not be subjective to ensure safety of life and property.
