On September 15, in Rach Gia ward, An Giang province, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of An Giang province to organize a conference to summarize the pilot model of high-quality, low-emission specialized rice production in the summer-autumn crop of 2025.

Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection Nguyen Thi Thu Huong said that in the 2025 summer-autumn crop, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will deploy 11 models under the 1 million hectare project with an area of over 543 hectares, attracting the participation of 355 farming households.

The models have helped to significantly reduce the amount of seeds to be sown (50 - 65%), nitrogen fertilizer (31.3%), reduce 1 - 3 times of spraying pesticides, while effectively managing water and collecting 100% of straw for sale or use as fertilizer.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam speaks.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam affirmed that the results of implementing pilot models of specialized high-quality, low-emission rice production in the 2025 summer-autumn crop will contribute to realizing the goal of the Project on 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice that the Government has directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to implement.

This is an important premise in restructuring the rice industry, to replicate the model in the coming crops, towards forming a sustainable commercial rice production area, increasing farmers' income and meeting international market requirements...

Implementing the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta (called the 1 million hectares Project), An Giang province has about 351,000 hectares participating. Particularly in the summer-autumn crop of 2025, the province will pilot 2 rice production models according to the 1 million hectares Project process in Binh Thanh Dong commune and Tan Hoi commune.

The results show that the model helps reduce costs by an average of more than 4.1 million VND/ha, increase productivity by nearly 0.8 tons/ha, increase profits by 5 to 8 million VND/ha, and reduce emissions by an average of about 8 tons of CO2 equivalent/ha.
