This is the first year the school enrolls 6th grade students, after being separated from the former Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.

Contestants are students who have completed primary school in Ho Chi Minh City, with a final exam score of 9 or higher in each subject of Vietnamese and Math for grade 5.
The school's 6th grade exam consists of two parts: essay and multiple choice, in both English and Vietnamese. Time limit is 90 minutes.
The English section has 20 multiple choice questions testing knowledge of Natural Sciences , Social Sciences, and common sense. The essay section includes English (listening, reading - comprehension, writing), Math thinking, and Reading - comprehension - writing.
Based on the exam scores, admission is taken from top to bottom.
