Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW (Resolution 71) of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development sets out the task of innovating the model of specialized schools and gifted schools to focus on nurturing national talents and expanding specialized STEM/STEAM classes.

Creating a foundation for national talent development

Speaking with Education and Times Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Duy, Principal of Hung Yen Specialized High School, said that Resolution 71 of the Politburo is an important step in promoting the development of education and training in Vietnam, especially in the context of integration and strong development of the 4.0 industrial revolution.

Towards a modern educational model, comprehensively developing students' capacities, while creating a quality learning environment, encouraging creativity and innovation.

According to Mr. Duy, focusing on STEM/STEAM helps students develop logical thinking, creativity, and practical skills, meeting the needs of the modern knowledge economy . STEM/STEAM specialized classes will help students access advanced knowledge and skills, better preparing them for the international labor market.

“The resolution not only focuses on innovating the model of specialized schools and gifted schools, but also demonstrates a long-term strategy to “incubate” talents who can contribute to the country’s development in the future,” Mr. Duy emphasized.

Mr. Duy also said that Resolution 71 will create many advantages, helping specialized schools and gifted schools to focus on investing in upgrading facilities and modern teaching equipment, thereby creating an effective learning environment.

Intensive STEM/STEAM programs will also be developed and implemented, giving students the opportunity to learn and research in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, arts... to meet the requirements of the 4.0 economy.

“Focusing on training talented students will open up opportunities for cooperation with international educational organizations, helping to improve the quality of education and training in the country,” said the Principal of Hung Yen High School for the Gifted.

For specialized schools and gifted schools to truly innovate

Innovating the model of specialized schools and gifted schools in the spirit of Resolution 71 not only aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning, but also aims at long-term goals.

From management and teaching practices, Mr. Duy believes that, although it has affirmed its pioneering position in key education, the strong development of specialized schools and gifted schools still faces some difficulties.

A group of students from Hung Yen High School for the Gifted won a Gold Medal at the ICPC 2025 Competition in Korea.

Typically, the infrastructure system is still lacking in synchronization and modernity; many specialized schools do not have enough facilities and advanced equipment to teach highly technical subjects, especially in STEM/STEAM fields; there is a lack of specific policies to attract talented students to breakthrough fields such as STEM/STEAM, especially in provinces and remote areas.

The shortage of teachers with deep expertise in fields such as science, technology, engineering, and arts is also a big challenge, especially when teachers need to be able to teach creative and innovative content...

In order for specialized schools and gifted schools to innovate their models, focus on nurturing national talents, and expand specialized STEM/STEAM classes, Mr. Duy emphasized that it is first necessary to increase investment in facilities and technology.

Ensure that specialized schools and gifted schools have adequate equipment, laboratories, and advanced technology software so that students can practice and be creative.

Along with that, it is necessary to build a team of high-quality teachers, with specialized training and teacher development programs in STEM/STEAM subjects.

In addition, the State needs to have a mechanism to encourage public-private partnership models between businesses and international organizations to cooperate with specialized schools to create practical learning opportunities, helping students have the opportunity to access new knowledge, advanced technology, and encourage students' creativity.

Finally, the Principal of Hung Yen High School for the Gifted said that there should be a mechanism to support scholarships for excellent and talented students, especially in disadvantaged areas, so that they can access more modern education.
