Public outrage over comedy show mocking Vietnamese people speaking Korean

According to Allkpop , netizens are currently outraged by a segment in the comedy series Coupang Play SNL Korea 4, a show that has recently gained attention in Korea.

In the segment posted on YouTube, the program creates a fictional live news report, creating a dialogue between the news anchor and the on-site reporter. On the news, the woman introduces herself as a trainee reporter from Vietnam. She is described as a Vietnamese woman speaking Korean.

The program dubbed laughter at the Korean speaking of the person who introduced himself as a Vietnamese trainee reporter (played by a Korean actor).

On social media, Koreans were outraged by the way the female character was portrayed. Many said the show was openly racist and xenophobic.

"This joke is so outdated", "Is this clip from 2003?", "Why can't comedy shows today create content that doesn't degrade someone"... are some of the comments from Korean audiences.

Others said the show was offensive to minorities. "All I saw was ridicule of minorities", "Making a foreign girl look innocent and childish, even as a Korean, I feel offended", "This is our society now. The number of people who realize and see it as a problem is very small".

The scene where the MC continuously laughed and mocked the fake MC was criticized by the Korean audience.

Another group of viewers called for a boycott of the show: "This joke? No wonder comedy shows are increasingly banned", "At this time, with the problems that society is facing, it should be canceled", "Doesn't any staff think of speaking up and stopping the broadcast of this shameful show?"...

Viewers even used harsh comments to criticize the show, claiming that it literally degraded society. Whether it was humorous or not, it was just racism.
