Professor Nguyen Quang Tuan's sharing when returning to 'doctor practice'
Having just returned to the hospital room after a CT scan, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong Van (86 years old, residing in Dong Da district, Hanoi ) - one of the first patients that Professor Tuan examined when returning to the hospital - could not hide her emotions when meeting the doctor who placed a heart stent for her more than 20 years ago.
Ms. Van said that more than 20 years ago, she was treated at the Hanoi Heart Hospital and Dr. Tuan at that time placed a stent in her heart, saving her life when she was in critical condition. "I was very surprised to meet Dr. Tuan again at the Friendship Hospital. I didn't think that I would have such a chance," Ms. Van said, choking up.
After asking about his health, Professor Tuan encouraged him to feel secure in his treatment. He also encouraged Professor Tuan to continue trying to treat many other patients.
Right next to the bed, Mrs. Pham Thi Hanh (80 years old, Hanoi) when seeing Professor Tuan also smiled and said: "I have heard your name for a long time but just met you today, congratulations doctor".

Happy to be back in business
Professor Tuan could not hide his joy when he put on his white coat, went to each patient room, and returned to the job that he said was in his blood.
Talking to Tuoi Tre Online about his daily work, Professor Tuan shared that the job of a practicing doctor is to visit patient rooms with doctors and share patient cases with colleagues.
"I am still in the process of practicing for 12 months as required to get a license to practice, so I cannot sign medical records, hold a scalpel, etc. But I can still consult with colleagues on difficult cases, go to the examination room, and advise patients based on my experience," said Professor Tuan.
Regarding the need to practice for 12 months to be granted a license to practice, Professor Tuan said that continuous learning is essential in any profession, and even more so in the medical profession. He also shared that during the time he was not practicing, he regularly read books and medical documents sent by relatives and colleagues. During these 12 months, he will focus on completing his work, then return to examine and treat patients.

Mr. Tuan chose Friendship Hospital because he thought there were many elderly patients and serious cases, which was also an opportunity for him to update and improve his skills - Photo: NAM TRAN
When asked why he applied for an internship at the Friendship Hospital, Professor Tuan shared that when he was working at Bach Mai Hospital, he often consulted with the doctors of the Friendship Hospital on difficult cases. He himself also came to directly support the hospital.
In addition, Friendship Hospital is also a place to treat high-ranking officials, the elderly with many underlying diseases, serious illnesses, especially cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, he wants to practice here to take care of patients with his colleagues.
Professor Tuan also said that since yesterday, when people knew he was coming to the Friendship Hospital to practice, many colleagues and patients called and texted to congratulate and encourage him. He also shared, "After everything, now I want to have quiet time, less noise to focus on studying and working professionally to continue practicing medicine to save people."
Previously, in April 2023, the Hanoi People's Court sentenced Dr. Nguyen Quang Tuan to 3 years in prison for violations during his time as a manager. This sentence does not prohibit him from holding any position or practicing his profession after serving the sentence.
In the verdict, Mr. Tuan's crime was completely unrelated to medical expertise but only a violation in management work. These are significant mitigating circumstances when the sentence was lower than the one proposed by the prosecutor.
